  • The UK doesn't even allow ridealongs due to shitty Health & Safety Regulations. Fuck Britain I'm moving to America.

  • Hmm... Me too, but to Canada hopefully.

And now you're an actual deputy, right? Did being an Explorer help?

Yes it did, I scored within the top 5 of my academy class somewhat due to being exposed to L.E. early through this program. I learned street knowledge through ride-a-longs as that's where you learn to be a real cop, not that stuff they teach you at the academy. Real world is a different animal, social skills are also important as this job is all about problem solving and squashing bs calls(there are plenty). If you get somebody to ride with that is comfortable with you, it would help greatly. I had a guy I used to ride with have me do everything except drive the squad car and any calls involving weapons. Any more questions you can p.m. me.

Find me and other AC members on http://www.accuratestudio.com

Really? Down here I know some guys who have been on ride-alongs with the RCMP and weren't in the recruitment or training process. Must be just your area?

Polcies over the last few year's could have changed , but they considered it a liability issue, but it's quite possible that it's only my area that doesn't

do them.

Although if all fails il put in for Police Service of Scotland :(

Mine is to join the Roads Policing Unit, or Traffic Cops, as they are more formally known

That would be good also I didn't think that was hard to get in so that shouldn't be hard (Thats sounds realy bad...im not meaning to call you an idiot)

I suppose it would be better working for the police were you live because its a bigger place where I live its either Drugged idiots or people stealing :/

Take a look at this :

*Facepalm*

I'm a police cadet for one of the welsh forces, and I must say it's probably the best decision of my life.

I've done a few shifts with my local "precinct" and assisted them in a few events.

Patrolled my local carnival on foot in full cadet uniform with a Sgt and i must say, many people thought i was a proper police officer. Many MoP's were asking questions on just what the cadets were and I loved talking to them.

Hopefully will do another shift soon, plus a week's work experience.

I think the cadets is a great stepping stone into the police and we are all treated as a part of the police family

In Scotland (Not sure about England and wales) you can be 17 1/2 to join although you have to be 18 to be a full officer. It would be cooler if my country used CVPI's and Tahoes :D but thats unlikely because Tahoes are incredibly rare :(

Plus the fact the crown victorias are too wide for our roads.

And the gas mileage would be horrendous.

Liability issues; Larger cities tend to frown upon those with no military or prior law enforcement experience when conducting ride-a-longs. Simply because if sh** actually hits the fan a person with military or prior law enforcement experience can defend themselves and if need be use a firearm and save themselves.

In addition the calls for service tend to be more severe than rural areas.
