Vehicle Search - Search a suspect's vehicle! 2.1.7

(49 reviews)

8 Screenshots

This plugin is obsolete; you should download PoliceSearch instead.

Information

From the time LSPDFR first came out, I wanted to add a bit more variety to what you could do.

This does just that.

Just detained a suspect and want to check their car for anything else you can charge them for? Simply go to any door of their car and press 'G' to search it. You can search the hood, trunk, and doors of a car. After a second or two, a notification will pop up, displaying what you found, if anything. This could be anything from some alcohol to license plates to a weapon. It's not just limited to just one item, either. You could find a weapon and some drugs, or maybe this guy likes to steal and has license plates, forged ID cards, and another vehicle's registration. If you've already searched a vehicle, then it will notify you of that, and list the items you found. If you accidentally search a car when you don't want to, press the search key again or just use a movement key and it will cancel the search.

In addition, you can pull out equipment from your trunk, such as rifles, body armor, and med-kits, in case a situation becomes more than just a small handgun can handle.

If you want another option in how you handle a situation, than this is for you. I hope you enjoy!

This plugin also has controller support. Just press left on the DPad by default to search a vehicle.

Installation and Usage

You need the Rage Plugin Hook for this to work. The newest version has been tested with Rage Plugin Hook v0.34.862.6641 ONLY and may not work with older versions.

When you have that installed, drop both the .dll and the .ini into your Plugins folder. Once you're in-game, press F4 to bring up the Rage Hook console, and type 'LoadPlugin VehicleSearch.dll' (without the apostrophes). If you're running an older Rage Hook, it will probably say something about the plugin not being verified. Just hit the up arrow, and then enter again. It should load correctly. After that, simply press the search key (default 'G' / 'LeftDPad') when near a vehicle's door to search it.

Configuration

In the included .ini file, you can edit things such as the button/key mapping, what items you can find, and the odds of finding an item. For more advanced users, you can change the animation your character uses as he searches.

Planned Features

  • Integration with FinKone's Police Radio K9

Credit

I'd of course like to credit G17 Media for creating LSPDFR, and the creators of the Rage Plugin Hook: for the hook itself, and for providing a ton of example code.

I'd also like to give due credit to FinKone, who gave me help with positioning code, and for his own plugin, Police Radio.

Please, give me any bug or crash reports. I'll try my best to fix them. I'd like suggestions on what I could add to the mod. If you have a great idea of something that would work well with the system already in place, then go ahead and tell me; if I think it would fit well, then I'll do my best to add it.

I've uploaded a video of the plugin in action which you can view here. This is of the first version, so keep that in mind.

What's New in Version 2.1.7

Hi there, I've got a bit of a question regarding this plugin.  I just recently installed it and I changed the keyboard key to None in the .ini file since it overlaps with another mode (Police Radio's questioning option) and since I have a keyboard, however when I hit g it still searches the car. I'm not entirely sure if this is normal or not since I saved the file and it clearly says None under the keyboard search key option, can someone help me in remedying this?

Are you sure you didn't accidentally set the modifier key to None in the .ini ?   and not the key itself? I use the Modifier Control plus the keybind G like below.. When I press G it doesn't search at all, unless I press Control+G

// The key to search a vehicle. Can be 'None'.
SearchKeyboard=G

// The key modifier to search a vehicle. If this is anything but 'None', you need to press this key in conjunction with the search key.
// Examples: Shift, Control, Alt
SearchKeyboardMod=Control

Hey Kal, it's me again.  Stalking you.  Just kidding.  I can't get this mod to work either.  I've triple checked that I've got it in the right folder, but it won't search anything at all.  I've tried g, cntrl g, shift g, alt g.  And I have not messed with the key bindings or any other settings.

Did you put it in your plugins folder? Make sure that the plugin is actually being loaded. Check the log or attach it to your post.

Confirmed works with .28 RPH! You just need to check the plugin twice in the settings, for some reason it removes the check mark if you click it only once, took me about 2 hours to realize.

According to multiple people, it works on Rage Plugin Hook v0.28.

Today it started crashing at random. ANY vehicle I get close to (was not even on duty yet) and it crashed. When I stepped off a motorcycle it was in an infinite loop (crash, recovery, crash, recovery) had to end task. Please fix?

Pretty sure that isn't related to this plugin, but you should post a RagePluginHook.log.

@FtDLulz One thing I have noticed is that I'm finding items from the below section in the .ini. My understanding from reading the commented section is that's not supposed to be the case. I went ahead and blanked the line out, but just thought I'd let you know.

// -- A list of items containing drug items. This will be used for FinKone's Police Radio K9 once it's done. For now, it does nothing. You can leave this blank if you want.
// -- If you don't have Police Radio, you should get it here: http://www.lcpdfr.com/files/file/7866-coroner-tackle-suspect-tow-plate-checker-pit-request-barrier-police-radio-early-version/
// - Use the same format as above.
DrugItems=~r~some drugs, ~r~packaged drugs, ~r~used needles, ~r~a scale, ~r~a burnt spoon

I probably should have been more clear when describing that line. It actually works exactly the same as the regular item list at the moment (it pulls from both lists when searching), but leaving it blank won't cause any problems. Thanks for the report nonetheless. I also really appreciate all of the help you give to others that comment!

Cool, thanks for the clarification. While you're here, wanted to clarify one more thing...

The below should never be used in the .ini, correct? Reason I ask is because I noticed the 'addon items' for this mod was using the ~n~ and I was never finding any items below it... then I happened to see this comment. I removed all instances of ~n~ from my .ini but I figured who better to ask than the guy who wrote the plugin. :)

// - Don't use these:
// ~n~ = New Line

Yeah, it's probably best not to use the new line, as it makes the text look bad and also usually causes the notification box to run out of room, resulting in some items being cut off or not shown.

I haven't been able to use this mod yet sadly, maybe I'm missing something simple but it continues to crash every time it's loaded whether I load it in game via ragehook (.28) or let it load as a startup plugin. Any help would be much appreciate FtDLulz! Here is my crash log..

I am guessing you have the files in the correct folder (Plugins), but did you change something in the .ini file? like a keybind

No I haven't touched the .ini file, I usually make sure plugins work before I change any keybinds. It's definitely in the correct folder (plugins). Does that error above mean it's a keybind error that's causing the crash? Thanks for the response Kal.

Honestly I do not know.. If you didn't touch the ini file, then its probably something else.. FtDLulz will probably know what it is.. I was just taking a shot in the dark.

Edit: lol so it was something in the .ini.???.. I felt there was something off about it, glad  FtDLulz was able to resolve it..

Are you sure you haven't modified the .ini? It looks like it's looking for the 'q' key when it should be the 'Q' key. Check your search key for your keyboard and make sure it's correct.

That seemed to be the issue, not sure how that q became my keybind for search, must have been a mistake :unsure: Anyways thanks for the help Lulz and Kal, much appreciated. Great mod by the way, loving it so far, great work m8.
