Hello everyone 👋

This is Realistic Traffic AI, my custom traffic overhaul plugin for LSPDFR designed to significantly improve civilian driving behavior and create a more immersive patrol experience.

As we all know, default GTA V traffic can feel robotic, unpredictable, and unrealistic — especially during intersections, pursuits, and freeway driving.

This plugin rebuilds civilian behavior logic to create:

  • Smarter intersections

  • Better freeway reactions

  • Realistic emergency yielding

  • Intelligent lane behavior

  • More believable violations

The goal is simple:

👉 Make traffic feel human — not scripted.


🚦 Plugin Features

🚥 Advanced Traffic Light System


🔴 Red Light Behavior

  • Configurable violation percentage (TrafficLightRunPercent)

  • Drivers are assigned their behavior once per vehicle

  • No random frame-by-frame flipping

  • Realistic stopping patterns

Example:

  • 95% stop normally

  • 5% may run the red light


🟡 NEW – Yellow Light Hesitation Logic

Drivers now intelligently decide whether to:

  • Stop safely

  • Continue through the intersection

  • Hesitate briefly

Behavior depends on:

  • Speed

  • Distance to intersection

This removes unrealistic last-second brake slams.


🛣 NEW – Intelligent Lane Merge System

Vehicles now:

  • Detect blocked lanes

  • Merge smoothly

  • Avoid zig-zag behavior

  • Respect cooldown timers

  • React differently at freeway speeds

Traffic flow feels significantly more natural.


🧱 NEW – Obstacle Raycast Braking

AI vehicles now scan ahead for obstacles:

  • Cones

  • Barriers

  • Roadblocks

  • Traffic disruptions

Drivers gradually slow down instead of ramming into objects.

Scan distance automatically increases at higher speeds.


🛣 NEW – Advanced Freeway Behavior

High-speed traffic now:

  • Reacts earlier to hazards

  • Merges more smoothly

  • Maintains consistent cruising speeds

  • Reduces sudden braking chains

Freeway driving feels dramatically improved.


🧠 NEW – Multi-Lane AI Intelligence

Drivers now evaluate:

  • Lane availability

  • Blocked paths

  • Traffic density

  • Environment type (city vs freeway)

This creates more believable, less robotic traffic patterns.


🚨 Improved Emergency Vehicle Yielding

When you activate lights and sirens:

  • Civilians detect you from behind

  • Pull safely toward the shoulder

  • Slow naturally

  • Re-enter traffic smoothly

Realistic unpredictability still exists:

  • Some drivers hesitate

  • Some partially block

  • Some react late

Just like real life.


Customizable Settings

An automatic .ini file is created on first launch.

You can configure:

  • TrafficLightRunPercent

  • EnableLaneChanges

  • EnableTrafficLaw

  • EnableEmergencyMoveOver

  • LaneChangeDistance

  • LaneChangeSpeed

  • LaneChangeCooldown

  • MoveOverDistance

  • MoveOverOffset

This allows you to fine-tune realism vs performance.

Removed stop sign prop scanning
Removed logging overhead
Stable under high traffic density

  • Stop sign prop detection system

  • Debug logging system

  • Task spam that caused brake locks

  • Erratic lane shift behavior

  • Stop Sign Logic

  • If you want Compatibility for Move The F*** Over and ClearTheWay V. Just turn off EnableLaneChanges = True to False and should work. You might need to do EnableTrafficLaw = True to false as well, then at that point I wouldn't have both installed.

  • The RealisticTrafficAI.ini will be generated upon doing ReloadAllPlugins or if you load it up via RPH Console.

Hello @Jerhodmyles122The ini is created upon going On-Duty as it's a Plugin. it's not using SHV and I don't have any plans to do so as the SHVSDK is hard to get ahold of!

Yes @GTA 5 Jedi MasterBut since this is C# SHV only Supports C++ and I don't have any Plans to do C++ nor learn it. I'll make it a SHVDOTNETSDK most likely which uses C#.

I could have my other person that helped me with this rewrite it in C++ but that would change how it works and idk if it'll work ideal. I'll let you know! If we do rewrite it into C++ it'll be uploaded here as a Extra File and or just on GTA5Mods!

May I request an option to get Traffic driving faster on most/all roads?

The freeway for example, traffic is usually going like..... 35 MPH in a 60. Other stretches of Country Roads have traffic going even slower, around 15 MPH on what should clearly be a 50+ MPH road.

I'm having a problem with some mods.

I'm using MTFO: Move The F*** Over (FKA Opticom) and Realistic Traffic AI.
For some reason the npc vehicles move like way too much sometimes, they even crash into walls or drive onto opposite traffic to get out of the way, not sure which mod is causing this or if there is a way to fix this. I'm happy to switch to another mod if that is necessary.

@AndreSenaSS1.0.0.5 or the latest 1.0.0.8 Update fixed these Performance Issues. Redownload it!

@StrandedReilYeah, I haven't added Compatibility, plus I already have a Move Over feature with checkers to make sure the 95% move out the way with the 5% chance not too, I will see what I can do to add support. I don't know if I will at all as I see no point too, however I will look into this.

@StrandedReilIt would be MTFO causing the issue since MTFO and my Plugin both have the moveover feature and it's conflicting. In my Opinion Try mine by it's self and if it works then congrats, if you want to stick with MTFO then remove RTAI.

@BrayI haven't added any Compatibility for any other Plugins on this Website, if you want to recommend the Names of what you would like to see Compatible with, then join my discord and send the links to them by making a forum or ask to DM me.

@TrooperDominicI don't know, but yes most likely as Me for RTAI and Rohan for MTFO will not be Adding Support anytime soon or in the near future. As that would require a whole code change were not looking to do.

Don't use Both Together. Use one or the other. Thanks!
