UpdateBuddy

This mod was made to allow LSPDFR plugin developers and their players to easily add automated mod updates.

UpdateBuddy is a silent executable, designed to only act when requested, displaying a simple notice to the user if an update is available for an UpdateBuddy-compatible mod.

Please leave any suggestions in the comments, I'd love to make this tool the best that it can be!

UpdateBuddy is open source! You can find the public GitHub repo here: https://github.com/SteveOhByte/UpdateBuddy

For users:

Simply install UpdateBuddy as you would any other RPH plugin (note: must be loaded on startup), it will be inert unless called upon by a mod which supports it.

For developers:

A complete guide on using UpdateBuddy and how it works is available here.

Yes, it loads via a rage plugin, so simply loading all plugins on startup will include it.

Hello SteveOhByte,

I hope you’re doing well.

I recently came across your Script, and I just wanted to say that I think it's a fantastic idea. This is such a helpful tool, and I really hope that more developers in the community get on board with your project and consider making their mods compatible with your system.

I’m interested in making my own Scripts compatible with your automatic update system. Could you please let me know how I can go about doing that? Any guidance or resources you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Although I don’t have much time right now due to other commitments, I’d love to contribute to your GitHub repository in the future when I’m more available.

Thank you for your hard work on this project, and I look forward to staying in touch!

Best regards!

Hi! The guide for using UpdateBuddy in your mod is here: https://material-kiss-30e.notion.site/UpdateBuddy-Integration-Guide-e02f5335e07f492f8a58c8be0158ce12

Unfortunately I haven't had the time to record a video example yet, so that guide is all I've got - let me know if you have any issues!

Hi, RPH just blocks your plugin everytime saying it causes the game to freeze. Solutions?

I would suggest making sure that either in the RPH configurator or in the RagePluginHook.ini you ensure that PluginTimeoutThreshold=60000

Do you have a discord server where I can get assistance about UpdateBuddy? I'm trying to integrate my callout plugin with UpdateBuddy but dropbox is not letting me modify the link in step 4 of your guide. Thanks.

I don't have a discord server, no - but you're welcome to comment here or just send me a direct message here too if you have more questions.

The gude wwas written a little unclearly there, sorry. Basically, you aren't editing dropbox's own link, you need to copy the link, save it temporarily somewhere, and that's the link you make a change to.

I updated the guide to hopefully be a little more clear there.

That's an interesting idea 👀.
Would it work without Dropbox? (using another service, or my own website)
