Dynamic Plate Generator is a lightweight C++ ASI mod for Grand Theft Auto V / LSPDFR that dynamically generates license plates using customizable formats defined in an .ini configuration file.

Unlike mods that rely on a fixed set of predefined plate styles, Dynamic Plate Generator allows you to create as many custom plate formats as you want, with a maximum plate length of 8 characters.

Whether you want realistic American-style plates, fictional state plates, European-inspired formats, police/government plates, or completely custom designs, you can define them yourself.

How It Works

Dynamic Plate Generator uses simple pattern characters to determine how license plates are generated.

Each format is defined using:

Character | Meaning
@ | Random letter
# | Random number
- | Literal separator

Example

Format_1 = @@@-####

This can generate plates such as:

ABC-4821
KTR-9037
XPM-1745

The letters represented by @ and numbers represented by # are generated dynamically.

Configuration

The configuration file contains separate sections for different vehicle categories.

Format Characters

@ — Letter

Each @ represents one randomly generated letter.

Example:

Each # represents one randomly generated number.

Example:

- — Separator

The - character is treated as a literal separator.

Example:

Format_1 = ABC-####

You can use separators wherever you want, provided the resulting plate stays within GTA V's character limit.

Creating Your Own Formats

You are not limited to the four formats included in the default configuration.

You can add as many formats as you want.

The [Formats_Standard] section is intended for regular civilian vehicles and other vehicles using standard/vanity-style plates.

The [Formats_Regional] section is intended for emergency, government, or other special vehicle plates.

You can customize these formats to match the fictional or real-world plate system you are trying to recreate.

Character Limit

GTA V license plates have a maximum length of 8 characters.

Keep this limitation in mind when creating custom formats.

For example:

Format_1 = @@@-####

is valid because it contains 8 characters:

ABC 4821

Whereas a format exceeding the game's plate length may not display correctly.

Installation Steps

Download the latest release of Dynamic Plate Generator.
Extract the downloaded archive.
Copy the mod files (DynamicPlateGenerator.asi & DynamicPlateGenerator.ini) into your GTA V main directory.
Make sure the .asi file is located in the GTA V root directory alongside your other ASI plugins.
Launch GTA V.
The mod will automatically load through the ASI loader.
Open the included .ini file to customize your license plate formats.

These are only examples. You can design the formats to match your own fictional state, country, region, or GTA V roleplay setup.

Compatibility

Dynamic Plate Generator is designed for use with GTA V and is particularly useful for LSPDFR / police roleplay setups.

It can be used alongside other GTA V mods that do not directly conflict with vehicle license plate generation.

If another vehicle or license plate modification is attempting to control the same plate functionality, compatibility may vary.

Known Limitations

GTA V license plates are limited to 8 characters.
The appearance of the generated plate is still determined by the vehicle's installed plate style/model.
Custom formats control the characters and structure of the plate, not the physical design of the plate.
Mods that independently modify or replace license plate generation may conflict with Dynamic Plate Generator.
Some vehicle models or addon vehicles may handle license plates differently.

Can I add more than four formats?

Yes.

The included configuration contains four example formats, but you can add as many formats as your setup requires.

Can I use spaces?

Avoid unnecessary spaces in your plate format. Use the supported pattern characters and separators provided by the mod.

Can I create my own regional plate system?

Yes.

The configuration is specifically designed to let users create their own plate formats.

You can create formats inspired by real-world regions or completely fictional jurisdictions for roleplay.

Does the mod change the physical license plate design?

No.

Dynamic Plate Generator controls the generated plate characters/formats. The physical appearance of the license plate is determined by GTA V and/or other vehicle/plate modifications.

Recommended Backup

Before editing the configuration file, it is recommended to keep a backup of the original .ini.

If you create a large collection of custom formats, consider keeping a separate backup of your customized configuration as well.
