I'm currently unable to understand why green lights exist in emergency vehicles.

This texture is based on the St. John Ambulance volunteer fleet in Ontario, Canada. Presently the Ontario Highway Traffic Act allows the use of green strobes on volunteer firefighter POVs and medical first responders en route to a call. Ref: http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/regs/english/elaws_regs_070484_e.htm Green may also be used to mark an incident command or HAZMAT vehicle stationary at an emergency scene.

In the UK, not sure about anywhere else, they are used to show that the vehicle is a Doctor Car, so when doctors have the respond to a persons home and they are seriously ill, but not ill enough to call an ambulance.
