What this does: Many GTA V players experience random crashes tied to XAudio2_7.dll, especially after long play sessions (commonly 15-20+ minutes in). The crash shows up in Windows Event Viewer as an Access Violation (0xC0000005) in a module listed as XAudio2_7.dll_unloaded. Why it happens: This is a known behavior with the legacy XAudio 2.7 redistributable component (part of the DirectX End-User Runtime). Under certain conditions, Windows' module loader decides the DLL's reference count has dropped and unloads it from memory — even though GTA V's audio engine still expects it to be resident. When the game then tries to execute code that lived inside that now-unloaded module, it crashes. How the fix works: XAudioPin is a lightweight RAGE Plugin Hook plugin that calls the Windows API LoadLibrary() on XAudio2_7.dll as soon as it loads, and — critically — never calls FreeLibrary() to release it. This keeps an extra, permanent reference to the module alive for the entire lifetime of the GTA V process, so Windows' loader never drops the module's reference count to zero and never unloads it early. This is the standard workaround for this class of DLL lifetime bug. Technical notes: The plugin runs inside GTA V's process via RPH (not a separate process), so the reference it takes counts toward the same module instance the game itself uses. It loads the DLL explicitly from C:\Windows\System32\XAudio2_7.dll to avoid accidentally loading a different copy that another mod might place elsewhere. Requires the DirectX End-User Runtime to be installed (most GTA V setups already have this). Tested over 80+ minutes of continuous play with zero crashes, versus a consistent 15-17 minute crash before applying the fix. Installation: Install the DirectX End-User Runtime from Microsoft's official website (if you don't already have it). Download the XAudioPin.rar file. Extract the file. Place XAudioPin.dll into your Grand Theft Auto V Legacy\Plugins or Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced\Plugins folder. Load the DLL from the RAGE Plugin Hook console (F4 key default, use your key if you have another) using the command: LoadPlugin XAudioPin.dllEnjoy! Troubleshooting: If the RPH log shows "ERROR - No se pudo cargar XAudio2_7.dll", it means the DirectX End-User Runtime isn't installed on your system. Install it from Microsoft's official redistributable page and try again.
