Come on, it would be silly to think that race doesn't play a part in the discussion about police culture, specifically in Ferguson. I agree, being a cop is a tough and dangerous job. Well its not like there's going to be a prayer circle down the street from the looting. It was overwhelmingly peaceful at first, but it was escalated. Listen guys, we all support cops. That's why we're here. But bad policing exists; there's bad apples in every job. What's happening in our country right now is these bad apples are being exposed, and that is a great thing.

Don't let the actions of a few ruin your perception on an entire issue our country is facing. Violence against police is a TERRIBLE thing, any sane person can agree on that. Its just that in the town of Ferguson, the black population of the town feels like they are being oppressed and taken advantage of by the police. There's plenty of evidence to show that it is true. Look it up for yourself. Police statistics and leaked emails show that this is true. Look back through history. Anytime cultural change happens, there is bound to be some violence. And as for over-militarization, I think cops should have whatever they need. Its just that when they roll up to a peaceful protest in miliary gear as they do time and time again, it starts to make people a little weary. Also, there's this:

Lets just clear up a few things: The protests have been mostly peaceful. The rioters aren't even from the Ferguson community The violent actions of a few mentally unstable people do not represent the overall message of the protests. The shooting of the police officers has been denounced by the protesters. Because of witness reports, it doesn't look like the shooter was even a protester. So please don't use this to belittle the importance of these protests

This decision was made my student representatives who voted to take down the flags of all nations in an "inclusive space" where all students are supposed to feel welcomed. This is how democracy works sometimes, it doesn't always produce great results. What is infinitely more disturbing than this decision is that right-wing groups all across the country are using the flag as a symbol of their hatred. So cut the bullshit and stop soiling the flag with the most un-American views possible.

Traffic advisory lights are fine IMO. If a neighborhood watchman witnesses an accident I think its a great thing if they pull over and try to help, and a TA light would help them stay safe in the process. But when it comes to red and blue lightbars I think thats where the line should be drawn. Civilians shouldn't act like cops and cops shouldn't act like the military.

Why is it that cops are always getting their guns stolen, or in every altercation they claim the suspect was going for the gun? What are their holsters made out of, play-doh? I mean if he had the gun then there's a very serious case in the cops' favor, but unfortunately the video is too far away and low-res to be able to tell. This is why we need bodycameras people! But sometimes it feels like getting into an altercation with a cop is automatically a death sentence, because there will always be the risk of the gun getting loose. Just based on the evidence so far it looks like a justified shooting. That is, and only is, if the gun was in the hands of the suspect.
