Don't forget that Microsoft has recently announced that mainstream support for Windows 7 will end on January 7th (while the end of extended support is scheduled for 2020).
The main reason why XP lasted so long is because many companies haven't upgraded their systems to Vista, 7 or 8, and it is still widely used (not only by companies).
I'm not saying 7 sucks, my gaming PC still runs it, but if you want to be able to run the most recent software (from Microsoft, at least), you'll soon have to upgrade.
Sadly, every good thing comes to an end.
