Trying to make Add-On vehicle from Replacer

Trying to get this Police Prius into my game as a new police vehicle for Los Santos.

https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/toyota-prius-police-replace-wipers-template

And I was pointed to this:

https://www.gta5-mods.com/tools/add-on-base

But I had some trouble with it, especially after realizing the video was out of date compared to the mod and procedure.

I'm about to give it another shot, but thought I'd ask around to make sure this process would work with these two sets of files.

Anyone have any advice?

You don't need to use any custom dlc or anything like that to make a vehicle a standalone/add-on, 99% of the vehicles out there can be made into add-on vehicles.

Follow my steps here -

While I exclusively mention this works for cars, this method also works for all vehicles.

I'm looking this over, but your process doesn't match what I'm looking at. I don't have the same folders in mods. I don't see how it jives with the tutorial I was first given. I don't get why the work wasn't done to begin with with even a commented lines in the relevant XMLs.

The guide is very ambiguous in several places. I might not have had my coffee, yet, but a lot of times I'm not sure what sections or lines your referring to, even though you're trying to be general enough to teach this process. I'd say it needs work to be as clear and instructive as it can be.

Why do so many files in this game have duplicative data? If you're editing a single or select few dlc file, why include another 32 gig file inside your pack when you can just have a relevant line to add to the file and just tell people: "Add this line to this filepath->File via OpenIV"?

Why does every car I download have data for all the cars in the game? That makes it so much harder to know what lines I'm copying and pasting when most of that is already done by virtue of the files being included in what you downloaded, anyways?

Very confused.

Now I have a collection of edited files in this vehicle but now I'm unsure if they're even prepared to be dragged someplace because of all the duplicative elements.

I decided to try this process with an add-on vehicle just to see.

This guy was just adding the folder with the dlc.rpf to mods and adding the line to the mods update.rpf. Done. It worked.

What am I missing, here? The prius was renamed in all relevant parts, so I'm pretty confused that all those files are necessary...

I only just got into GTA modding a year or two ago.  I went into it blind and having no idea what to do or how to do it.  There were video tutorials out there, but they didn't really hold your hand, which is something I've learned that a lot of people need - not because they are dumb - but because GTA modding is complicated if you have no idea what you're doing.  Thus, I began making guides that were written for the community and written in a very simplified way with the goal of giving people a guide in a language they could understand.  I have looked over my add-on guide countless times and have done my best to simplify it.  As I wrote it, I was actually doing the steps to make sure everything was right.  Everything in my guide was written as simply as it could be, there's no other way for me to simplify it even more.

Since you didn't tell me all the steps you took, do me a favor, please.  When you're properly awake and had your coffee ( 😛 ), try installing a standalone car again via my method.  If you have questions, or you're stuck, reply to me here and let me know.  I'll try and walk you through it.  Remember, follow my guide to a T, don't skip steps or try to rush through it.

I learned a lot today by messing with various standalone mods - not sure why people don't convert over to that as much as possible. Now I just need to move onto multi-file add-ons, which I find a bit mysterious soon. Then maybe I'll understand replacers to add-ons. I even figured out how to get my new police vehicles into LSPDFR.

Now, I wanna try to get vehicles to spawn with regular traffic. Not sure what mod is best for that.

If anyone feels very magnanimous and helpful - a standalone add-on of that Police Prius mod would be a golden contribution to the cause.😄

Tried to do the replacer conversion again recently, but I'm stumped. I had it working for a second where the game would load and I'd attempt to spawn it - only to spawn nothing. I went back, made some changes, and now the game won't load, giving me the "corrupt" message.

Completely stumped.

Well, I had replaced all of the files in the addonbase replacer kit into dlc.rpf. I coped the dlc rpf into the folder like so many cars I've done already adn thenn got in with opennIV and started editing things up.

I got as far as getting a successful spawn command, but no spawn. Thinking that something was missing - I messed with the content file and broke it completely, then tried adding annd fixing up more things, following the guide and additions, looking at other cars for guidance - but none of it worked.

I found Albos Modding Dlc tutorials had a really simple and easy to follow method for making addons replaces or vise versa, and it's in both text and video formats for whichever you prefer or if you need just a tid bit of reminder instead of browsing a whole like 8 minute video.

By following his work I've been able to RIP out all the vehicles from RDE and created a dlc that just has RDEs vehicles and a couple of other mods.

I always found video guides a bit more helpful (to me at least) for the first attempt, especially with GTA since it can be so easy to mess up.

There's also other modding dlc folders on gta5-mods that some can be used as a dlc to house all your retextures, or weapon replacers.

This is as far as I've gotten, and I feel stuck. If anyone wants to do me a favor and check/correct my work, I'd appreciate it.

I AM SO CLOSE!

Using a neat little tool, I managed to set up and copy paste enough to get the car working in game.

The only thing left is getting the sirens and lights to work. When you hit E, the car only beeps its horn, and the game doesn't seen to understand anything I've set up.

Since I was not the one that rigged the light - I have no idea what goes into make the lights actually work. The car is flagged as emergency and Law enforcement, but isn't treated as such.

NOTE:

- Car is flagged as Law Enforcement and Emergency Services in vehicle file.

- Computer works in LSPDFR when enter vehicle.

- Lights do not. Just get normal horn.

WELL!

IT seems that the problem lay in a very hard to see XML problem.

SO! After that, and some work with the carvariations to make the color work. I have a working Police Prius!

I'll be taking down the files to those links. After I refine the handling and the lighting, I'll upload the car and give proper credit. I did a lot of work on this to make it a full add on!
