Crashes & Clean Up

We're working in a .NET environment and so our memory is cleaned by the GC and we don't do it on our own. So maybe it's GTA. Anyway, you could have a look in your Eventviewer (Start->eventvwr.exe) and then under Windows-Logs/Application look for errors regarding GTA. If there's a erroraddress/offset in the description please post this one.

Thanks again for your reply. That's exactly the tool I was thinking of. Just couldn't remember the name.

At any rate, I did manage to find this for you (Click the image a second time after visiting the link to make it even larger):

errorshot.jpg

It crashed again just a few minutes ago after 2 or 3 shooting calls (where a group of people ambush you), and about 5 traffic stops, this time on the second island. I did notice that the AI police cars seem to use their light bars now, but this may be a fluke, as before it was on occasion. On the 4th shooting call, yet agiain, just as the AI turned to enemies, the game froze and then crashed. Exact same error, this time it read "Available RAM: -2139828224", an even higher negative number than before. My RAM usage was at 3.99 GB. Could it be that maybe GTA IV only allows for a maximum of 4GB taken up? Despite the fact that I have 6GB?

As you can probably see for yourself, the error mentions "clr.dll" which apparently has to do with the .NET framework, conveniently enough. This is according to a quick Google search I conducted, pictured here (Click the image a second time after visiting the link to make it even larger):

dllsearch.jpg

So we may be onto something.

The first link is to a forum thread on the MSDN Microsoft official website, where the first reply mentions a "fix" for that DLL file. However, I'd rather make sure we get a clear picture of what's going on before I start swapping out DLL files. Those are pretty serious things to be tinkering with.

If there's anything further I can do to help you out, let me know. When I have the day off, I leave this window open while I play, so every time I crash or take a break, I check back.

*EDIT* Had the same error again. Didn't play very much this time, paused it to catch part of a TV show.

Error is in function 'PostErrorVA' and errorcode 0xFD looks like a memory corruption. However I've never heard of PostErrorVA and really wonder why clr crashes. Are there any other crash logs for GTA with crashes in other modules such as GTAIV.exe?

The errors all appear to be approximately the same. Sorry about the late response, the forums have literally been down for these 6 days for me.
