Is it necessary to have two copies of GTA V?

Featured Replies

As in many tutorial especially when installing large components such as LSPDFR I've been told to save an Unmodded file of GTA V and doing so I have 2 full copies of the game and I only play the copy with mods in it, the unmodded copy takes up too much space and I'd prefer to delete, but in the case something goes wrong wouldn't I be able to delete everything and just redownload GTA V from Steam???

I also have two copies of the game and believe me, I know LSPDFR and LCPDFR now for over four years and I would always keep a second unmodded copy of GTA V.

Of Course you could redownload it, but having a copy saves a lot of time.

I always have 5 versions - I keep a clean version - Also have a UK version with a backup mods folder inside the game which I update as and when needed and also keep a backup copy of that version and the same for US version. Just over 1TB in memory but worth it - Always do the updating at night so not a big problem. I also keep the original files for everything I download as a copy........ Problem is now I know that I have everything covered I am wondering what would I do if my external hard drive failed and should I go and get another one to back it up lol...

Cloud save? Use Google Drive, OneDrive, etc to only backup specific files/directories. I personally cloud save important stuff, but I also have a backup drive that I save to as well. I have Windows 10 and use a program called "SyncToy". It works basically like a cloud drive, you can select specific folders just like the others and use some basic Windows task scheduling to run it however frequently you want to. I personally do it over night like most updates.

SyncToy's 3 modes:

  • Synchronize. Syncs your drive and backup on both ends.
  • Echo. Changes are left-to-right. Don't change anything on the backup (right) drive.
  • Contribute. Like echo, makes changes left-to-right. Only difference is that your backup files/folders cannot be deleted. It's useful for teams/groups, so no one can accidentally delete something or override another person.

So much to learn - I will add this to my ever growing list of things to read up on.....

Still picking things up as I go along but all I have to master now is installing special units and I think I will be where I need to be for the time being as am struggling a bit for the first time.  Then from what I can gather the final stage will be grammar police - I have found out of everything I have had to install etc for LSPDFR the hardest part has been key configs for KB and controller.

Thanks for the reply

JESUS !!!!

are you guys all serious?!?!?

the answer is " no you don't"

using OPENIV app gives you the option to only edit game files copied to the mod folder and each time you try to edit a game file it asks you to copy the file to the mod folder first and then lets you edit the file. so this way you don't have to waste disk size.

and if you can't remember which files in the directory are the original ones, you can simply take screenshots from the clean version of main directory and save them somewhere safe for later use. and don't worry. you don't have to do this for subfolders since you only adding files in there or editing files in mods folder.

hope it was useful
