Vigilantism Against Those Who Deserve It

Featured Replies

Just watched the new Deathwish, lacked the hand to hand from the first movie but was still good. Got me thinking about vigilantism and the justification and balance of good and evil in some of these really dangerous drug, gang and poverty riddled neighborhoods. The following is a scene from the new Death Wish, please do not watch if you do not want to spoil yourself.

good guy with a gun = Black Hooded Bruce Willis

bad guy with a gun = Ice Cream Man

Serious question, do you find the shooting of this man a good or bad thing?. If it was a real city, real town, real shooting. Not a movie. Wondering what peoples thoughts are about this.

The Potential Justification:

drug dealer

- uses children

- shoots children & adults alike

- gang affiliated

What are you actually asking? is it moral? sure. why not.

Is it compatible with current society? no.  mob justice (what this essentially is)  is bypassing all checks and balances for abuse. There is a lot of that right now in india and brazil due to the legal system and police being unable to cope for a variety of reasons. Does it help reduce crime? NO NOT AT ALL. DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
