Difference Between Local And State Units

Featured Replies

Hi, in all the videos I've seen on LSPDFR the pursuit backup menu has several options for calling in other units.

But what is the actual difference between a Local Patrol Unit and a State Patrol Unit? Is the difference in weapons, or is it just a difference in NPC/Vehicle?

By default, local patrol will literally just be that, an LSPD or LSSD patrol car with 2 officers or deputies. A state patrol unit will often be a motorcycle or sometimes a white unmarked car, driven by a single highway patrol officer. They both use the same weapons.

Okay thanks. That seems kind of pointless though. Why are they two different options and why do people treat State Patrol like it's supposed to be better than Local Patrol if there's only one officer in the vehicle?

FYI. you may customize it in your backup.xml file.

Immersion - for people who don't want the Sheriff's department responding to a pursuit on the highway, when they know that the Highway (state) Patrol has jurisdiction on highways.

However, I personally never call for State Patrol unless I'm using Realism Dispatch Enhanced, as that mod actually includes proper SAHP cars and helicopters.

To add, it's for roleplay and immersion.  There are a crap ton of state/highway patrol vehicles, including TheHurk's CHP pack.  If we're doing a highway patrol, we want our backup units to also be highway units, and of the same liveries.

Gio and pazzi nailed it sometimes I play as State Police not city or sheriff so if I use that menu to call for a backup unit I want a State Police ped/vehicle to come back me up. You can edit your backup.xml like pazzi said and set which vehicles and liverys are used for which backup units and also set how many officers show up in that vehicle. You could choose to have one officer in a state patrol car like you said or you could have 3 or 4 if you wanted. Works for all your backup units local/state/local swat/noose swat etc. For instance if i call my local swat when im in the city an unmarked unit with 4 gang unit officers will pull up however if i do the same in blaine county a regular swat team in a riot van will pull up. Adds to immersion and gives you more control over what peds / vehicles are showing up around you.

Being able to call for the different types of units is key. In real life you need the ability to call all of the units in. For example if youre a LSPD and you take it on the highway naturally the state would back you up or city into the county

The units that have jurisdiction would be the ones backing you up rather than a county unit being backed by a city cop in Paleto...
