LSPDFR Mod Manager/Installer

Featured Replies

After coming back into LSPDFR from being on hiatus (since 2013), I love the work being put into the new version. But navigating the site (even on fiber) I feel like its almost dial up like. I'm assuming its from the massive amounts of traffic that is generated here on top of the endless amount of downloads that are happening.

I've looked around and haven't seen anything directly towards something like this. Is there any interest in a possible desktop app that would allow you download/manage/install LSDPFR plugins for you. It could even be fleshed out to allow update notifications when an author releases an update for a plugin you currently have.

I know this site is powered by IP. Luckily IP has an API for its download module, https://invisioncommunity.com/developers/rest-api?endpoint=downloads/files/GETindex

This would allow us to directly consume the official downloads API, quickly develop an app and take stress off the sites servers. Complete with using the user account you already have here on the site. We would have to start a conversation with all the plugin developers, but we could easily create a system that allows direct installation and upgrades of their plugins via this app.

Not sure if this has been brought up before, but was wanting to see if there was any interest. I think it would be an amazing addition and I wouldn't mind help developing it.

(sorry if this is the wrong place for this)

There's been some discussion on this before. Our policy is that any plugin that does any sort of automated installation (of programmatically downloaded files/binaries) won't be approved on the download section of LCPDFR.com for security reasons.

As for the IPS API, that's not something we'll be exposing. However, we do already have our own custom API for checking for new versions of files on LCPDFR.com, and this is already used by a lot of script plugin developers here.

Right. I wouldn't be wanting to do it on my own. I would see if there was any community interest then give the code to the official team if wanted. 😉

Mainly a way to say thank you.

Regarding automatic installs, at least for plugins, installing and removing them is very, very simple.  I personally would rather people do it themselves instead of taking the easy way with auto installers.  That way they get used to how to install it and aren't constantly coming and asking us for help in the event of a flub up.

I need donations to help fund my food addiction. DM for details 😂
