RagePluginHook - GTAVLauncher.exe failed to start

Featured Replies

Hey guys, so I've been having issues with the RagePluginHook, and I believe its isolated to the RagePluginHook itself as just the plugin, no addons, I can recreate the problem. With the RagePluginHook being updated to 0.55.1131.11501, I decided to download to, and try to reinstall LSPDFR. However after installing RPH, I tried to run the game with just RPH, and I continually got the error "GTAVLauncher.exe failed to start" after the game had booted up, and was at the splash screen. This seems to be isolated to just RPH, and doesn't have anything to do with any addons I have as the plugins folder is completely empty. I've already tried to reinstall it, run it as administrator, and even utilize "Run with Compatibility: Windows 8" for both the GTAV.exe and RagePluginHook.

However I'm at the limit of what I know to do to treat the problem, and I need some help to figuring this thing out. As well as it doesn't run long enough to give me a log file to provide unfortunately. I've attached a screen shot of my folder as well. I've also done the Windows Creators Update fix, to disable recording and etc.

Since you're on Windows 10, please check this topic out -

Make sure you're not in compatibility mode, though. Sometimes that causes issues.

I followed that guide as well, and disabled all of the gameDVR/gameBar things however I'm still getting the issue.

I appreciate you taking the time to help me.

Can you please take another screenshot?  This time include the navigation bar at the top of the folder.

Yes of course. Let me know if there's any other files I can pull up to help solve this.

I don't know how HD paths work and what not, but I believe the path to the GTA folder has to have the exact same name path as it would if it was on the C drive.

I moved it back to my C: drive to see if that would fix it, however its still giving me the GTAVLauncher.exe failed to start.

Are you able to launch and play GTA V normally?

Yes, I can play GTAV normally, and even play GT-MP normally. It just seems to be isolated to RHP.

Try playing GTA V again, this time launch via Steam or via disc if that's what you have.  Load into the game, and play for a minute or two.  Exit the game, then try starting Rage.

I launched it via steam, tried to launch it after it was running for a while. It failed, and then I tried to launch it completely via RagePluginHook which still gave me the error.

From what I read in another thread, this issue was resolved by removing admin access from all files except Rage.  Did you edit permissions for any file? or change any settings?

The only permissions for any file I've edited were Rage and GTAV exes. Which the last time I tried to run it, only Rage had admin privs.

Go back in and edit GTA V launcher and GTA V.exe.  If they have special permissions, remove them, please. Then try again.

I disabled all privileges, and I got the error. I gave Rage only admin privs, and I got the error. This bug has really got my stumped at what could be causing it.

Please verify integrity of GTA's game cache.  Lets see if you're missing something.

All files successfully validate.

Right click on your GTAVLauncher and select properties, go to the compatibility tab and under the compatibility mode make sure compatibility for windows 8 or anything else isn't selected.

If that isn't relevant, temporarily disable the Steam overlay and try launching Rage.

I've ensured compatibility mode for Windows 8 is not on. As well as I play without Steam overlay on GTAV always.

Open your anti virus and firewall.  Add GTA V as an exception and try again.
