Problems using Police Mod, EFLC

Featured Replies

So, I've got EFLC, trying to install this great looking mod.

When I first install it, I get an error concidering the dsound.dll-file. I don't have the exact error now, cause I am past that point, and unable to get back to where I were. I then deleted the dsound.dll, and everything worked fine, but nothing but blurry graphics happened when pressing alt+p (same thing happened when pressing p without alt, by the way). I now finally tried to install the mod with the xliveless in stead of dsound, despite all the warnings. I then actually got a changed loading screen from what I used to, and also got a message saying that the saved file missed requested dl files, new game would be started. So, finally something happens. Unfortunately, after the loading, I got a general Windows error ("the programme has stopped working", directly translated from my Norwegian windows error). Then I tried to delete the xliveless-file, and now the screen just goes black as soon as I start a game, doesn't matter if it's Ballad of Gay Tony or The Lost and Damned. The computer makes work sound, so something seems to be going on (or it could just be because it's pretty hot here these days), but I waited for 2-3 minutes, and nothing happened, so I closed the game. Same thing happens every time I try.

Right now I am not able to get anywhere away from the black screen, I've tried reinstalling the mod with different specifications, but no matter what, the screen goes black when I start a game.

Any suggestions? It looks like a great mod, and I'd like to try it. If I don't get it working, is there any way to delete it and revert the game to original? Preferably keeping my saved game...

Press P again,

Just install Dsound,

Than open EFLC,

Press ALT-P (open LCPDFR)

Then press P again (NOT ALT!)

Thanks. Right now I'm at a point where I am unable to get into the game at all, because the screen goes black whenever I try to open a game. A tip on how to uninstall the mod so that I can start from scratch would be good.

However, I did press P without Alt directly after pressing Alt + P, to check if the blur effect came without Alt. I got the same result wether I pressed alt, or only p alone. I was never able to open LCPDFR at all.

To uninstall LCPDFR, remove FirstResponse.net.dll from the Scripts folder, or try running to installer again to get a clean install. As for the "blur" issue, P toggles Definition in the game's graphic settings, that's nothing to do with any mods.

You could also try downloading the diagnostics tool and run that. It may help finding errors which could cause your trouble.

Thanks. I tried that now, still got a black screen. I then tried to install the mod into a test folder, to see which files it produces, and deleted all those files. I then got the full loading screens, but when it was finished loading, it said "Loading Failed - Starting a new game", then the game closed and nothing more happened.

Yea, I tried downloading some diagnostig tool that one of the good helpers in here linked to in an other support thread, but I wasn't able to download it. Do you have a link I can try?

They probably linked you to wrong and/or outdated sites. The one on this site is still it and post the diagnostics log here, and hopefully we can assist you further.

Thanks, Raggio.

Okay, so I started the diagnostic tool, and got this result:

"BEGIN *SIGNED* LCPD First Response Issue Report

I then went to the " It says that all the ones I have gotten as "False" should be installed with the mod, and therefore shouldn't be a problem at all. I tried to install the mod once again, got a successfull install, ran the diagnose again, same result.

I don't understand... :ermm:

Also, I am still not able to start any EFLC-game. I tried now to start a game, then went for breakfast and watched some TV, came back 45mins later, still black screen. When I open the Task Manager, EFLC stands as working, using 25% of my system processor.

Are you running the diagnostics tool as administrator? If not, right-click on the tool and press "Run as Administrator" from the drop-down menu.

The game shouldn't be taking more than a few seconds, on faster machines, to a few minutes, on slower machines, to load. You probably have something that's interfering with the game. Have you any other mods installed? Also, you said the game crashes. Can you please check for the reason that's reported by Windows? To do so, go to Control PanelSystem and SecurityAction CenterReliability Monitor, right-click on any intance that was a GTAIV.exe crash, and press "View technical details," then press "Copy to clipboard" on the bottom and paste the error log here.

nothing but blurry graphics happened when pressing alt+p (same thing happened when pressing p without alt, by the way).

Just as an FYI, the game keybinds "P" as the definition-toggling button. Just change it to some other button that you don't use to prevent the game from becoming blurry when pressing "P."

I tried running the diagnostic tool as administrator, same result. My computer account is an administrator, doesn't that make everything run as administrator? (I am no computer expert, so I am a little confused by this, that's why I ask)

I did a system recovery (? Systemgjenoppretting in Norwegian) from yesterday, before I started installing this. Still not able to start the game.

I checked the Reliability Monitor, this is what it says:

No, running programs on an administrator's account does not automatically entitle programs to run with administrative priveleges, which is the result of Windows 7's UAC security system. It wasn't like this in Windows XP, as there was no such thing. Anyways, if the diagnostics tool still isn't working properly, try to place it into the folder where the game is installed to see if it can even find the game. At the very least, it should tell you what version you have installed (and looking at your error log below, you have the right one).

I did a system recovery (? Systemgjenoppretting in Norwegian) from yesterday, before I started installing this. Still not able to start the game.

Just an FYI, Windows System Restore usually does little to nothing in terms of fixing problems, and I don't advise using it. Instead, use an actual backup utility instead that can create images of your disk drives.

I checked the Reliability Monitor, this is what it says:

I've never encountered that kind of crash before. The KERNELBASE.dll crash could been corrupted files, coding libraries, etc. There are just too many variables for that problem alone.

I now try to install the mod again, but I just get this error when installing:

"Installation component 'dsoundASI' error'd!

ved System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)

ved System.IO.FileStream.Init(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, Int32 rights, Boolean useRights, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES secAttrs, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy, Boolean useLongPath)

ved G17MediaSetupEngine.UI.Interface.wizardControl1_SelectedPageChanged(Object sender, EventArgs e)"

"Exception EFCreateError in module DSOUND.dll at 000116C5.

Cannot create file "C:Program Files (x86)Rockstar

GamesEFLCasilog.txt". Ingen tilgang. ("No access." in Norwegian)"

Any clue?

To solve that (common) problem and continue troubleshooting, try doing the following:

1. Ran the installer as an administrator by right-clicking it and choosing "Run as Administrator" in the drop-down menu.

2. Set your game's root directory not marked as "read-only." To check for this, go to your game's install folder, right-click it, and look at the "Attributes" section near the bottom. Make sure that "read-only" is unchecked.

3. Right-clicked on the installer program, clicked on "Properties" in the drop-down menu, went to the "Compatibility" tab, and then checked "Run program as Administrator" near the bottom.

4. Applied the same "Run as Admin" settings to LaunchEFLC.exe for the mod to work.

I can see that you are not giving the installer and the game enough administrative priveleges, so it is essential that you follow these steps to install and run the mod correctly.

Thank you so much for not giving up on a hopeless issue like me  .

I do believe that the point in my quote may be (part of?) the problem. I am just not able to remove the read-only on the game folder (or any other folder, for that matter). I go to properties, unmark the read-only-box, click "use", give the system administrator permition to do the change, it does the change, but as soon as i close the properties-window, the read-only goes back on. Why?

Oh good! some one read it.. (methinks i need to add a line in there for EFLC installs)

Also....if you want to get rid of any saving access denied errors or that stupid UAC message try this:

Well, that did actually remove that error, and the asilog-file appeared when I launched EFLC. Thanks  . However, nothing else happened. Meaning, I launched EFLC, press play, successfully logged on to whatever, the launcher window closes, but the game never starts. I go to task manager, no eflc-process.

Bah, this is starting to wear on my patience. Anyways, I started redownloading the installation files for EFLC yesterday (I can't find the ones from the original download, when I bought the game), currently at 95%, so just an other hour. I'll reinstall the whole game, then install the mod from the beginning. Then we'll see...

Nooo! The download finally finished, and the installer opened. I uninstalled the game, and the installer closed. Now I am absolutely unable to find these installation files again, even though i did answer "yes" when asked if I wanted to keep a copy of the installation files once the download was completed! I downloaded from CDon, with their own downloader.

I've sent a mail to CDon, which they'd better answer. I am not interested in yet another 22 hour download session!
