Red Dead Redemption Now “Playable” on PC

Featured Replies

The RPCS3 project—a PS3 emulator for PC—has finally got Red Dead Redemption to a “playable” state.

Previously it would only load the main menu and a bit of the background scene before throwing errors. Now it can run the game at 3–15 fps.

It’s still far from great, but it’s a massive leap forward in just one month! And it’s a hell of a lot more than we're going to get from Rockstar.

Well, PCSX2 has got 95% of games playable in it's 15 years of development. So I don't see why RPCS3 wouldn't be able to eventually get there too.

RPCS3 is only 5 years old, but has made quite a large amount of progress in the last year or so. The progress on RDR in the last month is also pretty huge.

It's a painful waiting game, but maybe we will be able to play it without any issues before the end of the year.

It's 3-15 fps is probably better than that PlayStation Now rubbish anyway.

If they increase the FPS twice from where it's at now, and fix some of the color issues (such as the sky), I think it'll be near finished. But you also have to work on the missions, ensure they're fluid and smooth. Free roaming is one thing, complex AI, missions, and gunfights are a whole new area to work with.

3-15 FPS playable 10/10. 60 or nothing.

Well we already have the nothing thanks to R*. We just gotta wait for the 60 fps.

They won't be working on the emulator specifically for any part of RDR. So it may be back and forward with any progress made.

Is RPCS3 aiming for complete accuracy or game specific hacks?

Our goal is to create the most accurate PlayStation 3 emulator possible - we're not including game specific hacks.

It's very good improvement from what I've seen, seriously, how can I donate to these guys? And for me personally, I'll be in college this fall, so I actually don't mind waiting toward the end of the year.

They've got a Patreon and Alipay link on the top right of the site https://rpcs3.net/.
