All Traffic Disappears

I am having a problem wherein all traffic in my vicinity will inexplicably vanish.  This usually happens after a pursuit of some kind.

 

I have a wild number of mods added, but none of this really started happening until I tried upping the amount of traffic in the game world.  It's not my hardware specs, I know that.  I can SEE traffic in the distance (max draw distance set) but they hit some kind of invisible wall and disappear or vanish when I drive closer.

 

Parked vehicles still spawn as well as Ambient vehicles and anything involved in a callout.

All other ambient AI traffic is just GONE.

 

Below is a snippet of my log file around the time the situation occurred.  I had just broken up a street racing situation, one arrested and the other got away.  We got into a foot chase through traffic and I busted him about a block over.  While I was escorting him back to my car, all but my personal car had vanished.

 

This is only an example of the most recent time this has happened.  It's been happening for a while.  I'm assuming it's because I changed the "settings.xml" for more traffic, but there doesn't seem to be anyone else having this issue.  All I could find with my Black Belt in GoogleFu was an issue someone had about a year ago and it was the exact same situation I'm having now but it was inexplicably "fixed" after an update to LSPDFR.

Have you tried reverting the changes you made to the settings?  or have you tried replacing the settings.xml with an original?

Of course reverting the settings.xml file fixes the problem.  xD  But it doesn't make me happy.  D:  It's like a Sunday Morning around Los Santos.  Light traffic with scattered 10-50's.  I guess I'll have to pass on this modification.  Such is life, right?

The gameconfig in my signature gives you an option between light traffic and light peds, or heavy traffic and heavy peds.  Could try that.  Just remember to back up your original gameconfig.

I've tried changing my game config before and bootup crashed harder Brittany Spears' career.  But I'll give yours a try.

 

It appears, though, that I spoke too soon.  Just finished up a "Pursuit in Progress" and was leaving the scene to head up the road to sit and do some speeder-catching and once again the world went Walking Dead.  Not a car in sight (except way down the road and they just disappear when you get within about 500m).  Apparently it was not the settings.xml that is causing it.  Something that engages during pursuits that is shutting down traffic.

 

I know Automatic Roadblocks has a "stop traffic" option, but that's set to false and I've had AR for quite a while and it never introduced this problem.

 

The only way to fix it is to completely restart the game.  There's nothing in Rage Console or Native UI that I can use to, basically, reset the world.  This sucks.  I wanted MORE traffic and the game's like "No!  You get NOTHING now!  Go to your room!"

The gameconfig I linked is regularly updated for GTA updates, so as long as you're on the latest GTA.  Where is it you're patrolling?

Where this last instance happened?  I was on SR15 in Palomino.  I got a bit frustrated at the No Cars thing and decided to go full speed into a gas station pump.  I wrecked so hard my car exploded into 15 duplicates of itself..  I'm still trying to calm down from the laughing fit that brought on.

Respawned and still no cars.  No clue what causes it.  No clue how to fix it in game.

Check all the trainers you're using. Make sure traffic isn't disabled or any other similar option.

It's the Settings.XML change I mentioned earlier.

I did NOT use his files because they contained information that was not pertinent to my GPU, so I browsed for the relevant fields and made the changes consistent with his alterations for more traffic/pedestrians.  Specifically these three values:

       <CityDensity value="0.800000" />
       <PedVarietyMultiplier value="1.000000" />
       <VehicleVarietyMultiplier value="1.000000" />

I have since altered my file back to default to see if this issue would resolve it.  It has not.

I think I will delete the file entirely and relaunch the game without it.  If Take-Two has half a brain the game will consistency-check the file and rewrite it if it's missing.

 

The game is remarkably stable without any traffic around, though.  No random crashes using Computer+ or Arrest Manager for the past two hours.  Then again, I can only participate in callouts as-is.

The only mods from your list I don't have/never used are  search light, allthethings, custom backup, possibly PLD (not sure what this one is), smart radio, toolbox,  realistic road grip,  real vehicle damage, realistic driving,  more peds,  and not too bright lights.  Although the latter is simply a graphics mod, so ignore it.  Every other plugin I have or previously used without issue.  Whatever you've recently added, I'd remove and see if anything changes.

No bugs in Search Light.  AllTheThings cleans up whole instances and stuck blips, that sort of thing.  I got that to see if it could repair the disappearing cars incident.  Police Smart Radio almost everybody uses.  Toolbox didn't cause it.  Realistic Road Grip/Vehicle Damage/Driving were all on long before the issue started along with Not Too Bright.

 

I reverted my Settings.XML by deleting it and the game did recreate it.  I changed all my graphics options to what I had them set to since I first started playing.

 

I added in your traffic increase file.

It seems to be associated with Street Racing level events, but there's two different ones.  The first one above was an Ambient Event created by LSPD:FR itself, so I couldn't turn it off if I wanted to.

This time it was a Street Racing event created by Assorted Callouts.

 

I've noticed that, both times, I arrest one driver and one gets away.  Shortly after the "Leaving" scenario is when all the Ped Traffic goes away.

I wish there was a better logging system to explain this change in traffic behavior.

 

Edit:  Here's what it looks like to me.  The vehicles in the distance hit a barrier and "vanish".  It's just about the same distance where vehicles are seen spawning in.  It's like the spawn radius got flipped into a de-spawn radius.  You can see it in the video.

CleanAllTheThings has an option to delete all vehicles/peds everywhere on the map and it does a good job of doing just that.  New ones appear in the distance and, again, vanish when they get within about 300 yards of me.

It seems to be associated with Street Racing level events, but there's two different ones.  The first one above was an Ambient Event created by LSPD:FR itself, so I couldn't turn it off if I wanted to.

This time it was a Street Racing event created by Assorted Callouts.

 

I've noticed that, both times, I arrest one driver and one gets away.  Shortly after the "Leaving" scenario is when all the Ped Traffic goes away.

I wish there was a better logging system to explain this change in traffic behavior.

 

Edit:  Here's what it looks like to me.  The vehicles in the distance hit a barrier and "vanish".  It's just about the same distance where vehicles are seen spawning in.  It's like the spawn radius got flipped into a de-spawn radius.  You can see it in the video.

CleanAllTheThings has an option to delete all vehicles/peds everywhere on the map and it does a good job of doing just that.  New ones appear in the distance and, again, vanish when they get within about 300 yards of me.

 

If CleanAllTheThings has that option, there's a chance it might be bugging out.  Try temporarily removing it.

I added CleanAllTheThings to try to fix this.  So it came after the problem.  It's also a passive plugin.  I have to run its commands through RC.

If you unload all plugins and then load from a save (from before the issue started happening) does not fix the problem either.  I have no idea what could be causing this.

 

Anyone familiar with the Rage engine that can tell me what DOES NOT get reloaded when you bring up a saved game file?

 

You can unload all plugins, but does the MODS folder get reloaded when you load a saved game?

So far, yes.  It's happened a total of about four times.  Each time was at the end of a pursuit of one kind or another.   One pursuit was the result of a traffic stop (speeding).  Another was an ambient Street Race that passed right by me while I had someone pulled over for running a red light; (he nearly got hit by a bus, so I think the dooky in his pants was punishment enough).  Finally there was the Pursuit in Progress that ended right about where Rt 3 begins heading into the desert.  Nailed one guy on the on ramp from the 15.  Turned the car around after towing his vehicle and ordering him a pickup to go after the other guy.  Get on the highway and it's a ghost town.  Bag the last guy, who was fleeing on foot, then called him a ride, then just looked around at the apocalypse of loneliness. 

 

I wish there was a debug plugin.  Something that could scan the game's rolling code and output it.  Granted that would require significant CPU usage, but my Haswell-E (5930) can handle it.  This way I can track down what process is being unhandled.  I'm assuming it's a GTA process because reloading the game from a save does not fix it (which reloads all the plugins).

 

Civilian traffic isn't bothered by ELS and the only changes to vehicle meta data is for Handling and adding custom vehicles (I've overwritten "Ambulance", "FBI" and "TowTruck" and added a Coroner van; all mods I've seen other users use without issue.)
