For UK citizen, do you think UK uniform patrol officer should carry arms???  If I am not wrong, I heard from someone is that the reason for them not carry arms is because majority of the common citizen or public do not have a guns  right???  For me, I think if they carry arms, the suspects /criminal will have some deterrence or some fears of the police. If not the public do not give a fuck to the police.

 

Country such as Hong Kong and Singapore used to be commonwealth country and trained/modelled from UK metropolitan police force. But they do carry arms even the majority public do not have guns/rifle. 

 

I know currently only AFO and SFO, ctfso is allowed to have guns, rifle

They don't carry guns because they simply don't need them. Gun crime in the UK is very low. they have more of a chance of getting stabbed than shot on duty. Plus a suspect won't fear the police because they have a firearm, If they want to attack an officer.. they'll attack an officer (Take US for example) They're armed with firearms (handgun in their holster and a shotgun/rifle in their vehicle) and officers die everyday there.

 

Spending the thousands (even millions) arming UK officers will just be a waste of money, they don; need weapons. The only UK cops that need them are Armed Response Units (which are put in high-risk areas like Buckingham palace, downing street etc) 

 

UK cops worry more about knives then guns (hence why they use stab vests) 

Now is not the time to debate this.

As @Constable Lego said, this is not the time to debate this. Bad things have happened, but the Met does not need guns for normal patrols. And that's that.

Closing because this has been discussed before multiple times, and we don't need another thread of conflicting arguments about guns and their usage in the police forces.
