Absolutely.  But you may also look at the newer GTX 1060 models to see if they are in the same price range or not.

I definitely second Iggy. I love my 970 and it is a more-than-capable card to play GTA with heavy mods at 60+fps on all very high or above. But I think the 1060 would be a better card to go with considering the price is the same if not lower than the 970, and from what I have seen the performance is nearly identical. Plus, you get that extra 2gb of VRAM.

 

If you're buying it used off a friend or something, absolutely go for it.  I upgrade from a 960M to the 970 and the difference was in one word astonishing.

Desktop: Custom Build     i7 4770 3.4 GHz  -  16 GB RAM  -  GTX 1080 8 GB

Laptop:   ASUS GL-752     i7 6700HQ 2.4 GHz  -  16 GB RAM  -  GTX 960M 2 GB

4 or more gb of vram for gta5 to run good and have your graphic on ultra or very high i had a 960 2gb and it was weak sauce now i have a 1070 8gb and is a beast consider games are evolving so i would buy a good one like a 1060 ,1070 or 1080 you dnt wanna get something today like a 970 980 and then in 4 months u fell behind and then you have to upgrade again invest in buying one one time and be good for a year or 2 and not have to worry about it
