Hi everybody, I thought i'd post this to help out some of you who may be crashing in GTA V in both standalone version & rage plugin hook. The issue is the "mods" folder, Firstly to confirm if this is you're issue, rename the mods folder to something like BLAH and load the game and see if it continues to crash, If it doesn't continue to crash after that, it is clearly the mods folder got corrupt somehow. To fix this issue, unfortunately you need to delete you're mods folder & restart, as of right now, there is no other fix that i am aware of. To prevent this in the feature, I highly recommend after you have gotten all your mods installed and you can verify the game is working with them reinstalled, Backup your mods folder, move it to desktop or something that way if it happens again, Just DELETE your mods folder in your GTA V directory & copy and paste the backed up one you backed up. I really hope this does help some people. Community mods, please consider about making this a sticky or pinning it.

Thanks :)

Yeah, I'm afraid your understanding of the problem is completely incorrect, and therefore so is your solution.

The problem is a result of the main files of GTA V being updated by Rockstar, such as the archives like x64e.rpf, or update.rpf. The mods folder loads any files inside of that folder into the game whilst it is loading, overwriting the default files inside the game.

The problem however, is when these core files are updated, since the game is now searching for items within these archives, except the game only has access to the outdated version of the archives which do not contain the updated items. This results in a game crash as it cannot access the dependency it's trying to load.

In order to fix the crashing, the mods folder needs to be emptied of all files, and the archives you wish to edit need to be freshly copied from the updated files before the mods are re-installed again as they will now contain the new files included in the update.

The files are not "corrupted", nor will backing the mods folder up help anything since that won't update the files that are problematic after an update. The only way to fix the problem is to delete the contents of the mods folder and start installing your mods again.

Even that ^^ isn't entirely accurate. The only file you need to worry about is update.rpf, ALL rockstar updates tweak this file and add a new patchdayXXng folder under the dlcpatches (but since this is new, it wont exist in your mods folder). This is why its best to put custom modded cars into the dlcpacks, as you can pretty much avoid ever needing to touch update.rpf (for car mods anyway, things like VisualV will always need to be in update.rpf AFAIK)
