Time for some terrifying updates. I have just read that police are chasing 2 people with bombsvests, in the Netherlands-Zaandam. The 2 people went into a McDonalds bathroom and put on 2 bombvests, the police got called in quickly and fired 5 warning shots, the suspects are still on the loose, around 5 search helies have been called in, no one got injured as far as we know. I go to school and live near Zaandam, I whent to that specific McDonalds yesterday, shits getting tense.

It's apparently a false alarm as far as the suspicious package goes, guessing the bomb vest thing isn't true either, most likely people are just very much on edge after yesterday.

Interestingly enough, national media haven't mentioned much of it either as far as I can tell, just some reports of warning shots fired during the arrest and nothing found in the restaurant.

 

Not sure why you'd want to commit a terrorist attack there in the first place though, it's not really a high profile location.

I didnt get that either, one of my friends lives right next to the drame, she told me that the air was packed with choppers. I live a few miles away and I heard tons of police racing to the scene.

They are being interrogated right now. The planed bombs where fake, they are not yet sure about the vests. Props to the police for not shooting these assholes.

It's quite easy to understand why they didn't shoot them if you see the amount of paperwork, investigations and possible court cases involved lol. Might be a good solution for all those shootings in America too, thinking of it.

 

I do wonder why someone thought it would be a good idea to plant fake bombs, or whatever they did exactly. I'm guessing they've either got some mental issues, or are incredibly stupid.

It takes a special type of person to stay calm in these situations. If you see a potentiol terrorist whos carrying a bombvest, I´d not think about the paperwork for a second.

A test of local police reaction, for example. Or an attempt to move the attention from somewhere. Don't underestimate those people.

I was suprised SWAT didnt respond. I guess they cleared it up pretty fast. Sad to see people from your town redicalising. Either that or it was a meaningless hoax. Its scary either way.

I guess that would've taken too long, or maybe they were busy or it got resolved before they arrived. Who knows?

Yep.. The normal police forces arent trained enough to handle serious terrorism. Alot of local departmens have lowered their standarts, they have to deal with inaccurate and obeseyed police officers. If we dont start investing some money into a better, more responsive AT we have a serious problem.

The years of safe living can do that to anyone. In 90's in Russia there were disastrous attacks on schools, hospitals and even whole towns with tens of people killed. Somehow, someway, they trained qualified AT fighters, but it took time and experience and sadly many casualties. 

If only it was possible to learn from mistakes of others.

Well, considering they solved it without help of specialized units, I'd say they did pretty good. And in case something big does happen, it'll probably happen in one of the 4 large cities, which should all have decent SWAT coverage. I know there's a team for the Rotterdam/The Hague area, there's a team near Utrecht (seen them drive on the highway before, they had quite a few cars) and I'm assuming there's one near Amsterdam too. And even if there wasn't one there, there are special military police units with APC's somewhere at Schiphol Airport, in case shit hits the fan.

Main issue is the intelligence agency (AIVD) which needs to get its shit together and properly monitor suspicious/radicalized people/groups/whatever.

When it comes to terrorism, it's really much better to prevent them with proper intelligence, that's true. Not even a tank regiment deployed in a city can save people from death by a suicide bomber.

True, they´re absolutly paranoied. They made AT arrest 5 innocent people in 2 days. 

Turns out there was no terrorism involved, someone saw some people act weird in the bathrooms, thought she also saw some wires and then called the cops, who in light of recent events came out in force.
