Advice On New Computer

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I need some advice on a new computer so I can play GTA 5 and LSPDFR.

I found these two computers at Amazon.

Could someone tell me which computer would be best to play the game.

After reading the forums and looking at the pictures on the gallery, I want to join in on the fun. LOL

Thank You.

The first one seems like it'll play GTA V fine, the CPU and RAM pass the recommended requirements for the game and as for the GPU, a quick youtube search provided this:

I would avoid the laptop completely.

Trust me, I used to play on them for years and they all eventually fail in one way or another, best thing to do is custom build one.

I got my latest rig from these guys https://www.overclockers.co.uk/gaming/gaming-pc/all-gaming-pcs and they do ship to the US too. So far, no complaints on my rig and it can handle V on High / max settings for around £600. Have a look on there to get an idea, you can select a base unit and then select each component from a compatible list.

Processor: Intel i5-6600 @ 3.30GHz

GPU: MSI ARMOR GeForce GTX 1080 OC

Ram: 16GB Skylake

It depends on the laptop. They mainly fail because of the amount of heat they generate, and they lack the cooling and airflow that desktops do. Now, my old non-gaming HP laptop from 2009 (my Dad only uses it now for internet browsing) runs perfectly and hasn't had any issues. Mainly because it's a normal laptop and doesn't generate extreme heat.

If you were to find a gaming laptop that had extremely good cooling, it may work out. But either way I would avoid laptops entirely, as Harper said above. Desktops offer more performance for the price too.

Good tip if you are getting the desktop w/ hard drive, Go into nVidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Shader Cache set to OFF. Boosted me a lot.
