Got no clue what LAPD uses now, but it most certainly is a modern vehicle and therefore doesn't worth being known. But at some point in time they used these beauties:

This is about the most modern I can find. I've never seen an LAPD transport van outside of the internet. Although, I believe the County Sheriff handles a lot of that. They're usually the ones operating the courts and also sometimes take to their own jails outside of the main city LA. Which of course does have its own jails.

I've seen this pic too and had no clue why they are white, maybe you know? Does that designate a special unit or something?

I actually thought the topic starter was looking for vehicles LAPD uses to transport arrestees from streets to precincts. As far as I'm aware they have no special vans for it and use squad cars...

I know the LASD uses white vans like this which are used in community relations. That may be for the LAPD, too.

I know quite a few departments in Northern CA use Ford vans for transport. I wouldn't look too much into why it is white... Honestly it's probably just cheaper not to paint it and keep it the stock white. Plus the department is probably already dropping a pretty penny on putting a cage in the back of the van.
