How to add skins

Featured Replies

Hey,

So I've seen some really nice police car skins, but after downloading them I find there a '.png' file and I don't know how to install these. I only know how to replace the '.wtd' and '.wtf 'ones, same goes for uniforms. I think I've almost figured it out for e.g: if I wanted to change the skin of a CVPI I'd go to the '.wtd' or '.wtf' and open them and see a selection of '.png' files, I can only figure out how to export the '.png' files though, but I can not find out how to import the '.png' into the '.wtd' or '.wtf' files.

I'd also like to know how to open the handling.dat file in the normal GTA IV file.

If that made sense to you I salute you because I found it confusing myself, and if you know how please tell me in detail.

Any help would be widely appreciated.

Thanks,

Demecast

Installing Skins

  • Download Spark IV
  • Run Spark IV - Select GTA IV - Open the vehicle image within GTA 4.
  • Browse and select the correct police .wtd file that you're going to edit.
  • Replace one or more of the police vehicle skins (2048 x 2048 texture) by importing the downloaded .png skin for the correct vehicle and click save in the upper right corner.
  • Lastly, rebuild and save image.

You can associate most .dat files with a simple text editor/reader like notepad or something beefier like Word

what if files dont match names? Like i have a charger skin i downloaded but it has 1 png in it while the spark file i open has like 10.. and none look anything like the 1.

Then rename it to match and import. But don't topic steal.

They don't have to match, the improrted Png replaces the old

hm so i tried this and it still didnt work for the charger i have. does the skins need to be specifically made for that model or will the generic charger skins work?

and custo, im not really sure how this is topic stealing when it says "how to add skins", I see no where that says "dont topic steal or ask for help on someone elses thread that relates to the exact same thing" Im just asking for help mate.

There's usually 4 skins under sparkIV, typically named something like police_sign1-4. Replace those with a skin for the car. I think almost any charger skin will work with a pre-2011 charger, but 2011 and 2012 I believe you can only use those skins.
