College Campus Officer

Featured Replies

So I have few questions about this, I've been looking into this because I think it would be nice to work on the same campus where you can get your master's degree.

1. I've having some finding the salary of these guys, would I make around the same amount as the other police department? (For example, if I work at Idaho State university as a college police officer, would I make about the same amount as the Pocatello or the State Idaho police department)?

2. What is the expected job growth of these jobs?

3. Do I have to buy my own uniform?

1. You would probably make (from most to least) as the State Idaho, then Pocatello and University Officer.

2. We will always need cops, I believe I heard there is a growth in law enforcement (in general)

3. I have no clue

If you are going to get your degree @ Idaho State, you could do internships at some of the Departments. City, County, and State all do different duties, with overlapping here and there. Just make sure you 'stand out.'

Don't mess with the law, if you can't handle the law.

I don't think the campus police will hire you, if you're also attend that university. I would call the Campus PD you are interested in joining for that answer. Seems like a conflict of interest imo, and I personally wouldn't eat where I shit lol.

1. Usually from I'm seeing online, you won't make as much local or state cops.

2. Look at police forums from current or past campus officers they'll give you an in depth look at their experiences.

3. Uniform policy depends on the agency.

Considering the commitment it is to be a cop, I think you should a join a reserve force from a local agency for the experience and references or find a campus security job if you want to get paid. It will be a headache going to school while working around the PD's schedule, especially while in the academy and your probation, but's it's not impossible. Good luck bro

1. It depends on the agency. I know in Florida almost all the campus PDs have the same or better starting salary as the surrounding agencies in that area. I actually looked at applying to University of South Florida Campus PD, they had a starting salary of around $45k which was the same starting salary as Hillsborough County SO and only $5k less than Tampa PD. They also offered discounted tuition at USF which is a pretty common offer for most of the campus PDs in Florida.

2. I would imagine the job growth would depend on the growth of the school. If you work for a campus PD at a university that is always growing or really big then the growth will be decent but if you work for a really small community college or something it might be stagnate.

3. The last question would really depend on the agency, most agencies provide their officers with all the uniforms and equipment they need but if the agency is really small I guess it is possible they might have you buy some of your own stuff, however I have never heard of that.
