A Couple Things Regarding Website Features

Featured Replies

There are a few things on this website that I've noticed which haven't been "fixed" or changed, and I thought they should be spoken up about:

Top Downloads Module on Downloads Homepage

The top downloads of the week should show files that were posted in the previous 7 days, and list the top 5 in order of which ones were downloaded the most in that time, as should be the case with the top downloads of the month and year. If possible, I also don't think that LSPDFR and LCPDFR should be shown here, even under "All," because LSPDFR remains a featured download, is shown in the banner at the top of each page, and is also in the list of "G17 Media Modifications" on the Downloads homepage along with LCPDFR. This would give members a chance to have their frequently downloaded modification displayed here. Currently only 3 mods can get a spot here, unless 5 members' mods surpass the amount of downloads both versions of FR have, which I highly doubt will happen.

What's New Module on Downloads Homepage

In this module, there are too few recent mods shown. The gallery module displayed on the Forums homepage shows about 30 images, while this module only shows about 15 mods. It should show the same number of mods as the gallery module shows images, as mods are posted just as frequently as images, and new mods that are good quality get sent back too quickly.

Featured Downloads Module on Forums Homepage

This is a little less important, but still a small issue that has been present (at least for me) for a while. As you can see here, using the back or forwards button shows a random file from the featured downloads each time rather than displaying the items in a list order. This is not the case in a similar module on the Downloads homepage, which works properly.

We probably won't be changing the top downloads module that much, however we will soon get rid of LSPDFR & LCPDFR from the listing. As you say, it's kind of pointless having those there when a great portion of our traffic is looking for those modifications anyway.

I agree with you on the what's new module on the downloads homepage and we'll certainly present more of them in the future. There is no algorithmic mechanism to filter out things which people percieve as low 'quality'.

Regarding the featured downloads module, there are a few issues with that, as it is entirely custom. We'll have a look at that when we have time.

I don't mean it literally in that way; that was an example to back my reasoning - with more mods displayed in that module, modifications that are good quality will be shown there for longer. Sorry for that bit of confusion.

Thank you for reading and acknowledging.
