COMPLETELY new to PC gaming and need help with basics

Featured Replies

Hello all, let me start by saying I have spent an entire day trying to research what all I need to do to make the LCPDFR game work for my PC. As the title states I am completely new to PC gaming, I mean this quite literally as I have never actually played a game on my PC. When I do feel like gaming I play on  an xbox 360.

I figured I would start a thread here to get the help I need. I know there are thousands of topics like mine, but I have a hard time with searching because Someone will explain how to fix a specific problem, but I have no idea what they mean, i.e. "make sure you copy "x" file to you game folder".

With that being said, I know I am working with old computer stuff here, if it ever does work I expect lag and crashes until I can upgrade all my stuff.

I don't really know what all information you guys need to help me out so please ask and I will do my best to answer, but remember, I am not up to date on computer terms and I dont know what components do what, as stated, 100% new to this. I will tell you what I have and what I have done to this point.

-Downloaded GTA4 from Rockstar website (PC download)

-Downloaded the LCPDFR program from the LCPDFR website.

-Downloaded various files and and programs suggested during my searching

My PC is a Dell Inspiron 530 on Windows XP. Video card is Radeon HD4350 1275MB.

If someone wouldn't mind giving me step by step instructions, and kind of help me when I don't understand what you are actually saying, I would greatly appreciate! Thank you in advance!!

Im sorry I just double checked and it is "Vista service pack 2" not XP

I'd assume that will not work either.

If I'm right in saying, the newest versions of LCPDFR (1.0+) don't support Windows XP or lower, due to the version of .NET Framework it uses.

I am actually running Vista, not XP as I oroginally thought. Also, I just did a complete system restore of my computer so I assume I will need to re-download everything. I figure this will be easiest so I can follow each required step and bypass what's not required, I am figuring I probably installed some things I didn't need.
