GTA IV crashing

Featured Replies

Hi All,

So my game was constantly crashing and i saw '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>>and thought it may be due to this so i tried to install a "save game" on the latest version patched by steam and it seems to load a new game, does anybody have any links to a save game that works or have rockstar games changed were the saved game saves too?

I've been loving playing LCPDFR but it seems my game crash's even without it running with the exact issue someone mentioned in the url above.

I'm hoping for a quick fix as i'd have to redownload gta iv and start all over again.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

GTA IV has a built in feature to stop anyone from doing this.  Even so, you can still install external saves by deleting dsound.dll and replacing it with xlive.dll, included with LCPD:FR.  Keep in mind, though, this disables online multiplayer.

However, saves while on duty shouldn't cause a problem anymore.  Your crash probably has to do with something else.  First, try the following common fixes:

Make sure you aren't using a crack
Update GTA IV to 1.0.7.0 (the latest version of the game, or 1.1.2.0 for EFLC) - This sometimes fixes a wide variety of issues
Make sure that you run the game as an administrator.
Make sure that your GTA IV root folder (and every subdirectory) is not set to "read-only"
Ensure that ScriptHook.dll, ScriptHookDotNet.asi and Dsound.dll OR Xlive.dll are in the GTA IV ROOT folder
Ensure that there is a folder titled 'LCPDFR' in the ROOT GTA IV folder.
Check that all the above files exist, if they do not, reinstall LCPDFR with the MANUAL installation.
Ensure that you are using up to date versions of every LCPDFR dependency and LCPDFR itself.
Install these: .Net Framework 4.5, Microsoft Visual C++ Redist 2012

If not, please now reply to this thread, and make sure that you do the following:

Give a clear, detailed description of the problem.
Explain any circumstances surrounding the problem.
State any solutions you have tried.
    Post ALL relevant logs (LCPDFR.log, Scripthook.log, ScriptHookDotNet.log, AdvancedHook.log).
Include as much information as possible.
    Post your system specifications.
Post what other mods you are using. This includes car and script mods.

Hi Shenells132, many thanks for taking your time to respond.

After becoming infuriated i completely uninstalled GTAIV, ran a ccleaner and a reg cleaner so i ensured all files to GTAIV were deleted, i have re-installed LCPDFR,ELS V8 (have also tried ELS V7 but this still crash's game) i was previously using some uk mod skins for police cars but i then thought it might be that so i downloaded '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>>, i backed up my vehicles.img that come with the original game, im currently running VDH police helper script & braveheart's policing script. I have found no matter what i uninstall, ELS,bravehearts script etc that the game keeps crashing, its GTAIV itself with a windows prompt and the screen goes black. I tried uninstalled lcpdfr and tried another police mod script and it seemed to crash in that as well. I have ensured that i have full permissions to the folder and i run gta as administrator, i have tried playing it offline instead to see if this makes any difference.

I have a I5 4670K proccessor @ 3.40GHZ (not overclocked) Running windows 7 64Bit as i have 12GB DDR3 RAM, And a nvidia GTX 760 graphics card. (By Day i'm a second line I.T technician) I've researched on multiple forums for an answer but there doesn't appear to be one :( Its a real shame as i have such great fun playing for about 5 minutes! Before uninstalling GTA IV i tried some other xlive.dll files which didn't help. I'm currently running GTAIV from steam with the latest version of 1.07 i believe? .Net framework 4.5.2 is installed and i've just noticed that somehow i have 32bit and 64bit C++ installed, so i am just uninstalling all the 32bit ones at the moment but any other suggestions would be great.

Also running latest graphic card drivers.

Ideally i wouldn't like to go to the extreme and reformat my HDD's considering GTA 5 will be out soonish

I really appreciate your time looking at this and replying thank you so much :)

You may need the 32-bit versions of C++ for GTA IV.

Try:

  1. Removing Advancedhookinit.asi
  2. Disabling LCPD:FR's autosave
  3. Making sure you have one asi loader (either dsound.dll OR xlive.dll)
  4. Making sure your Advancedhook, Scripthook, and asi loader are all from LCPD:FR.  Do a manual reinstall of LCPD:FR after installing any other modifications if unsure.
  5. A manual reinstall of LCPD:FR
  6. Disabling ELS Ai.  See http://www.lcpdfr.com/page/tutorials/index.action/_/script-data-file-modification-tutorials/troubleshooting-crashes-r112 for more details.
  7. Reducing your quality settings, or installing Large Address Aware.

If none of these common solutions work, uninstall all modifications, and reinstall each individually untill the game fails.  Then, you'll know what is causing the problem, and can avoid using it.

And remember, the less unnecessary modifications, the more stable the game will be.
