New PC Gamer, Questions on possible build

Featured Replies

Hey guys, looking for some answers as i am new to PC gaming. I am looking to build a PC that would run LCPD:FR efficiently, i will list my plan as far as what i am thinking as far as the computer goes. Curious is to if this would work, and what settings would it run on. Also feel free to offer any other ideas to the build that i may be missing.

ASUS Z97-A Motherboard

Intel Core i5-4690K CPU

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz RAM

Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Video Card

WD Blue 1 TB Hard Drive

Asus 24x DVD Burner Opt.

Cooler Master HAF 912 ATX Mid Tower Case

XFX 550 Watts Power Supply

Would this work and if so, how well?

I'm running it on a XFX R9 290 (on a AMD 8530 CPU though), heres a video if you'd like to see it running Ultra while recording using nasty Fraps and ENB Cry3.  Without recording I hover around 53 frames.

Get a SSD as stated above.  It really does help to put your OS and higher end games on there.

Help my channel grow and I can explain to my wife why this addiction to coding is a good thing!

Wait a couple of months until the 300 series GPU's are released. They will whoop the 200-series asses.

yes, the X variants. If i undrestood right, other 300 series cards are just rebranded HD 7000's

not even bad for wireless connection

Looking to start ordering parts for my build. anyone reccommend a ssd or have a link to a deal?

Well Crucial SSDs are good, pretty fast, and relatively cheap. The MX100 128GB is the same price as the BX100 120GB, but it's a teeny bit faster. Not sure where you're located but in the US they're each $70 at the moment.

If you really need a cheap SSD, Kingston is okay but their SSDs have gotten significantly slower than what they were a while ago.

Hey guys, so I'm completely new to PC gaming (other than wolfenstien when I was a kid). And at this point I'm not planning to build, instead im thinking about buying my first PC, and then upgrading/building at a later date. What are your thoughts on a machine with these specs:

AMD Eight-Core FX-9370 4.40GHz,

16GB DDR3 Memory,

2TB HDD,

120GB SSD,

4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970,

I'm assuming this will be great for GTA IV, but I'm also wondering about how it will handle games in the future (released within the next 24-36 months)

Thanks guys!
