Keyboard & Monitor won't turn on

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I've spent the best part of today installing new ram which I had decided to buy since by PC was getting a bit sluggish. However, since installing it I've had a nightmare of a time trying to figure out why my keyboard, mouse and monitor won't boot up.

The most amount of information I've been able to get is a single short beep from my mobo indicating a memory refresh issue when the new ram was installed, I've subsequently put back my old ram and that has also failed to boot the peripherals. My mother board is the Sabertooth x79 (http://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X79/) and the new Ram is Corsair Vengeance 16gb 1866mhz (http://www.corsair.com/en-au/vengeance-pro-series-16gb-2-x-8gb-ddr3-dram-1866mhz-c9-memory-kit-cmy16gx3m2a1866c9).

I've sent numerous support tickets to both Corsair and Asus however have received no response. Can anyone help?

Many thanks!

So both RAMs you have tried don't turn on? Did you try just one RAM stick first? Have you tried other ports/slots for the keyboard/mouse?

Thanks for the reply! Yes, neither of the 2 kits (4 sticks in all) have worked - I upgraded from 8gb at 1333mhz to 16gb at 1866mhz, can that affect it at all? No I didn't, I've only tried starting with 2 at a time - I'll give that a go in the morning and get back to you. Yes, no other ports work unfortunately.

Your monitor doesn't even turn on?

And the problems only occurred after installing new RAM?

No, I just get a lovely black screen to look at.

Yep. I've tried draining the CMOS battery and checking the ram through the motherboard but nothing is working. I'm really running out of ideas here

So, you've taken your original RAM out and replaced it with your new RAM and your computer doesn't boot? I'm guessing it boots when you put the original RAM you had back in? I had the same problem last year, I can't remember if it got fixed by using different RAM or not. I tried everything i could think of to fix it then finally gave up and took it to a local PC store to see if they could fix it and they tried a few different brands of RAM. The problem is your Motherboard doesn't like the RAM you're using, so it's rejecting it for some unknown reason. My advice is to wait for your support ticket to be dealt with, or take it to your local PC place and get professional advice like i did (i got lucky and they didn't charge me anything, however they may charge you.. depending on the company).

I really hope you get your problem sorted, because like i said i had this trouble and it was a pain in the ass!

If you want to me reply as soon as possible, then either quote or @CouthInk4  me as i'll be notified, a general reply will not notify me

Try using one of those pressurized air can things to clean out the RAM slots. If that doesn't work I am going to guess that somehow either the RAM slots died or both sets of sticks have broken connectors (unlikely).

How old is the motherboard? Do you know what your old RAM is (model, make, etc.)?

No, it doesn't even boot when I put the old ram back in. I'll take it down to a PC store and see what they can do on Monday - thanks for the advice!

I gave it all a good clean with a can when I took the first set of RAM out, and none of the slots that I've tried (8 in total) have worked.

The motherboard is just over 2 years old, and seems to still be functioning properly since I get the beep at startup. The old RAM is 8GB SAMSUNG DUAL-DDR3 1333MHz (2 X 4GB)

k try this on your motherboard there should be a button that says memok hold and press that till you see the led start to blink than let it do its thing it might take a bit but you should than be able to boot also are you use all new ram u cant really mix and match diff ram hope this helps

Ok will do, I assume it needs to be powered on for this (obvious but I don't want to break anything further :P) and the RAM stays in? Yep, all new RAM.

Thanks for the reply
