GTA Not Starting Up

Featured Replies

It will work, he just hasn't done it correctly yet. He has been trying to turn off write protection for the installer most of this time.

And how do you know that? Two maybe three times he has been given step by step instructions on how to do it each time it was explained that he needed to go to the gta directory. I highly doubt that he hasn't done it correctly.

>Run The Installer As Admin

This wasn't going to fix his problem

>Please ensure that your GTA IV folder is not read-only.

>I do not see anything involving read only, I checked all 5 sections.

He doesn't think anything was read only in the first place and I don't know what 5 sections he is talking about but there are more than 5 folders in the root directory.

>Right click the GTA icon and select run as administrator.

First thing he tried and still (unsurprisingly) no joy.

Even if he has made the root directory folder unprotected, it's still very possible the files and folders inside commondata are read only. Unless he can prove to me that all the files inside that folder are not read only, I won't believe he has done it.

More specifically I believe that the weapons files have to be unprotected.

The other alternative is to not install the taser.

Why would it not if your not a admin, you are not allowed to edit, create or delete from program files without running the installer with extended privileges i.e running as a admin.

He's talking about the five tabs that are visible at the top in the properties dialog.

As I stated above, running as a administrator may have worked.

Thanks so much. You guys are life savers. I got it to run, and pretty smoothly. The only thing is, that in traffic stops, it just keeps saying follow until they pull over, and never stops. But besides that, it's doing great.

Running as administrator didn't work for me when I had the same problem when I installed RC2, it's just to do with certain account permissionsthat don't seem to be common. I'm not sure the issue there. What I'm suggesting worked for me and has worked for anyone else seen take the same advice. I don't think he is following the thread very well though.

Not every problem is the same, with the same solutions. It can have multiple causes which are not always fixed in the same way. It may have worked for you but for others it may not.

I had to un-install the LCPDFR mod, and re-install with all in administrator, and also made sure I was up to date on the new patches. And with pull overs I am right behind it, but it still just says "Follow until they pull over". And what button is CPR?

Glad you got it sorted.

So you did exactly the same thing you did earlier in the thread but it worked?

Alt-M for CPR, not sure about the pullover issue. Does it not come up with 'park up behind the vehicle'?

Yeah alt-F12 is for forcing duty if you are having problems or you are testing features. It is primarily a developer function and is not likely to be a public feature. You should be using Alt-P
