What do I need to improve performance?

Featured Replies

Hey guys and gals,

I was wondering what would improve my GTAIV performance?

I have good a decent set-up and if I wanted to upgrade my CPU I would need a new motherboard so that really isn't an option at the moment. I think it might be the ram. Here is my set-up;

CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition

Operating System: Microsoft

Newer or better graphics card

The graphics card should be fine, and so is the RAM. If you were going to upgrade the first thing I would upgrade would be the CPU, I know you said you couldn't but even if you were to upgrade all the other parts, the CPU would bottleneck the performance anyway.

You really need a 4-core CPU for GTA......

Quad core is always the best as Tom said. But I once ran GTAIV back when I had intel core duo processor, and it ran fine but the graphics were just low and the maximum MB was 297 MB in the game Graphics. But the graphics as you listed is okay.

Hey thanks, The name my motherboard is the same name as another but I can't seem to find it. Mine is like second version and I can't find the specs for this one.

Could you recommend a CPU I could get with my motherboard? Asus M4N68T

I only have a single core and want a duel or whatever size I can get really...

Cores don't mean much, an intel i5-2500K quad core beats the best bulldozer eight-core, the FX 8150, according to multiple benchmarks. However, what you do need, isa processor with a better lineage, such as AM3, a Phenom II x4 965 is your best choice if you want good performance without breaking the bank.

Yes there is no point buying a 8 core because the game won't utilize more than 4 cores but you won't get a decent game out of a single core, so really you do need to think about cores as well.

For GTA I recommend a 4-core CPU such as the Phenom II X4 960 or 965 as neo recommended, though you might struggle to get them in some places like I recently did as everyone is beginning to stock the bulldozers instead.
