I've been having trouble updating to patch 1.0.7.0 and found that Dsound.dll OR Xlive.dll are not installed in the GTA IV root directory. So I then attempted to reinstall 095RC2R2 and received the error below with a note asking me to post it on this forum:

I also attempted to run the diagnostic tool and that crashed. GTA IV also crashes when I attempt to start it.

Any suggestions?

No no, are you running the game as administrator. Not your account. Right click on your game or game icon and press 'Run as administrator'. Then, to be sure, create an account with social club and press 'Play' instead of 'Play offline'. That can help.

Sorry, I actually tried right clicking and run as Admin and I had the same issue. I'm almost done reinstalling GTA IV to see if that fixes the issue.

I also get this error when I try to start GTA IV:

Exception EFCreatError in module DSOUND>DLL and 000116C5

Cannot create file "C:Program Files (x86)Rockstar GamesGrand Theft Auto IVasilog.txt".Access is denied.

I also tried right click and Run as Admin and the program still crashes, but I don't get the error message above.

Hi - after reinstalling GTA IV I was able to update the patch. I then reinstalled 095RC2R2 successfully. I think that the issue must have been due to an issue with the original install. The game now runs so the issue is resolved.
