Need Help Upgrading CPU?

Featured Replies

I'm going to start off by saying I have no idea how to change my CPU. I am a computer noob.... I am currently running an AMD FX-4100, but want to upgrade to an AMD FX-8320. Would I just be able to upgrade it without changing my motherboard(ga-78lmt-s2)? I am very confused! Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Honestly, I know nothing about AMD products, but most likely you'd need to buy a new MOBO for that new socket. If they are the same socket, well you're in luck.

To replace a CPU isn't too difficult. Remove the old CPU/MOBO, take your new MOBO and add the new CPU in. Apply thermal paste correctly, and then put on the fan/cooling solution, put it back into your case and you should be ready to go. Everything else is taken care automatically.

But don't underestimate this, definitely watch a video guide, and this process could easily take a couple hours.

If you have the rev. 1.2 motherboard then it should support the FX-8320E, but if you have the older version you will not be able to use the 8320. I suggest you get a new motherboard and buy the FX-8350( it's only $30 more).
