Does anyone in here watch SOUTHLAND on TNT

Tonights episode was amazing. Plenty of funny parts and serious parts too.

"It's gonna take Jesus and two more white folks to keep me from kicking yo ***!"

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

I live in LA, and this show is as gritty and as real as it gets. This season 4 premiere was pretty damn amazing. I can't wait for the rest of the season.

Edit: @Stevetrackboyz And keep in mind that many West Coast goers haven't seen it yet ( until 10 for them) so try not to spoil anything. Glad I have Directv, i can see it the same time East Coast goers see it. SouthLAnd is also trending on Twitter also, it's a very popular show.

Oh shoot, sorry man, we talk about it later and I also edit the post cause I would hate to be the one that spoil the moment for them, I'll keep it short, it was a great episode.

I love the show as well. I have not seen this one yet, it should be on the DVR. I will be watching it tomorrow eve. I will say though I hated when they had to kill off the one detective, so he could be in true blood. Even worst was that true blood killed him off too, seems that poor actor can't catch a break. Not sure why, but I really liked him better then the one who stayed.

He was one of those guy that could get along with anybody, that was also his weakness which they uses against him, he thought that he was cool with them, but look what they did to him. They would have to kill me before I let my partner go down like that...

AHa, yep, I do, big fan of it.

You looking for the Police car pack of it or something?

I had to look on the net to find out what this was. Looks pretty good, we only get one channel in England and that finishes at 10.30pm but we will prob' get it in a year or so when it gets sold off cheap.

Great show, however 1 year behind over here.

Out here, shows like these aren't that popular as well although a couple of channels are trying out Flashpoint, Rookie blue, Hawaii Five-O and Trauma. However, it seems some of these have already been taken out of the air. Shows like CSI and NCIS (one of my favourites) remain popular though. Also, one of the lesser known shows that was broadcasted here and that I liked is The closer. The acting is good and it's about the LAPD homicide squad so what do you need more?

I haven't seen Southland yet but by the look of it, it doesn't seem to be that bad. I'm more fond of shows like cops and police interceptors who follow real cops ( although I'm sure a big part of it is staged as well) but some show and big action scenes aren't bad once in a while.

"Dura lex, sed lex"

None of those real shows stage stuff, that's sort of the point, although I have my doubts about COPS at times, people can't be THAT stupid.

That's the funny thing, people are that stupid.

Oh I know.

One of my fondest memories from COPS has to be one of the older episode, a white female flags down our officer, he interviews her, she borrowed a friend some money to buy stuff, but didn't pay her back, she was upset because "she had planned on spending the money on crack".

When our good officer went over and spoke to the second POI, she explained that "I ain't no crack addict, I'm a prostitute".

Oh, and Saturdays episode, with the dramatic case weren't bad either.

People's stupidity is indeed unbelievable sometimes. I remember an episode of police interceptors where two Israeli's flagged down a police officer to say they were ripped of in a car deal because the car wouldn't start. Turned out the car was just out of gas and on top of that, they didn't have any insurance for the car so their car was impounded.

You might be right about the fact that it isn't staged but I see a real difference in people's reaction to the cameras in cops than in British shows like police interceptors or road wars. Most of the time, the Brits are way more camera shy and refuse to be filmed as to in cops, Americans act like the camera isn't even there. That's why I think that some parts in cops are staged or at least heavily edited to cut out the bits where people react to the camera.

Here's a rough breakdown on how it is with the Danish shows:

Intro, theme song, plus intro video. (1 minute)

"On tonight episode". a few clips from tonight's episode. (1 minute)

Introduction to the first incident, (½-1 minute)

Actual footage from incident 1 (2 minutes)

Introduction to incident 2 (½-1 minute)

Actual footage from incident 1 (2 minutes)

"after the break" what happens after the advert break (½ minute)

Cut to adverts 7 minutes)

"Earlier" showing what happened before the ad break. (1 minute)

Introduction to the third incident, (½-1 minute)

Actual footage from incident 3 (2 minutes)

Introduction to incident four (½-1 minute)

Actual footage from incident four (2 minutes)

"after the break" what happens after the advert break (½ minute)

Cut to adverts (7 minutes)

"earlier" (a lot has unfolded, now up to 45 seconds - 1 minute)

Cut to incident 1, wrap it up (3 minutes)

Cut to incident 2"earlier officer x and y attended job x" wrap it up (3 minutes)...

I hope you can see a pattern.

Each incident lasts about 5-6 minutes, out of them following the pair throughout the week (usually 3-5 days, 8 hour shifts)

They usually get crews out in three or four cars on the shifts they're assigned to, and from that you have about 30 minutes of footage, that's less than a minute an hour..

Bottom line, it's not what being a cop is actually like for five minutes out of their whole week.

COPS has it even easier, they only have to fill 19 minutes with content.

Seems like Danish television is very entertaining with 14 minutes of advertising  And you're absolutely right by the way. I remember a behind the scenes episode of road wars once where they showed the cameraman sitting in the back of the patrol car, sleeping, waiting to be woken up by the officers when something interesting would happen.
