Tips for new PSU and GPU?

Featured Replies

Well, my PC's GPU is shit (ATI Readon HD5570) and i was hoping to get some tips.

I have a budget of 480-500$ (330£, 320€) and would like to find a decent GPU and PSU. I got a modified Acer Aspire M5711, and i do not know the width and height of the case.

A nice fan could also be good.

if you can just stretch you're budget a little bit further, get the EVGA version of the 780ti for the graphics card or if u can't get that get the EVGA GTX 690 or 780

I have the Corsair HX750, best Power Supply I've ever owned. I highly recommend it. And for GPU, I'll only recommend Nvidia series cards. Since the 960 will be out by the end of the year (980 and 970 already released) I recommend waiting and maybe purchasing a 660, 760, 770, or 960.

You have a good budget, that shouldn't be a problem. The PC your stuff is in however is a slightly different issue, there could be some bottlenecks there. For example, if your MOBO is only PCi Gen 2, well then a new graphics card may not benefit entirely what you paid for it.

Well, i have no idea what MOBO i use. I know i have a two core CPU.

Hmmm, companies like HP and Dell are known for putting in custom power cables and otherwise using non-standard types of components because they want you to buy newer versions of their products. I'm sure the GPU would work, and you could always transfer it to a newer computer down the road, the PSU I'm not too sure about.

Sorry, what I meant by that comment is your new GPU would work well. I meant it would fit most likely and work fine. It might be bottlenecked to some degree, but I'm sure it would work.

Okay. But i am not 100% sure if it would fit. I only have 17x7.5 cm.

I looked at some pictures, my guess is a full size graphics card would fit, but with bottlenecks and limited upgrade ability room for the future, I recommend building your own computer or getting a custom build, or purpose built PC.

Well, i don't have the budget for that.

I've looked around, and good gaming PC's can go for about 6-9.5000 Swedish Kronor. That is about 1000-1250 $.

And that's used PC's. That may not be in mint condition.

A custom build, or a new one is about 11.000-18.000 Swedish Kronor.

I do not have the money for that.

Perhaps they may indeed cost around that where you live, but not here. If it's not location driving that expensive cost, you might be looking at top tier, top of the line name brands gaming machines.

You can build upgradable, performance computers for like $700-$800 at least here in America. And of course, just buy the essentials first, and add on later.

I'm not sure whether it was your searching or your country's prices that were causing the high price, so that's why I kept saying "in America". Only you would know that.

Okay.

I maybe have been looking on really expensive ones, as they had like a Titan or a Titan Z installed.

Looked em' up and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD

- Victor

LOL! Titan will raise the price a lot. I think you need to look in the right places. in America popular websites include CyberPC, Amazon, Newegg, Tigerdirect, ect.

Origin PC is another.

That computer just might not be worth upgrading. Starting from scratch may be a better option.

If you have a limited budget, you could start buying computer components month by month, as in, buy the processor the first month, then the second month, buy the motherboard and memory, the month after that would be the power supply and cases turn, you will then need an operating system and maybe a dvd drive to install said operating system, go for the gpu last as most cpu's and motherboards have the ability to do onboard graphics, I know you will not be able to game efficiently with that, but you can at least get the computer up and running first.

I myself have a limited budget and had to do the month by month thing twice for 2 different computers. Some parts such as the dvd drive from the old computer can be used in the new computer, you can always keep using the same keyboard and mouse that you have been using for a while already.

Usually, the cpu and gpu are the more expensive parts, followed by the motherboard and memory and psu.

Sure, it may take some time to gather all the parts but it will be more satisfying.
