In all fairness, cops in the U.S tend to have loose fingers on the trigger & seem to kill a lot of people & get off the hook, now don't get me wrong, I respect the job they do to a certain degree, about 99.99% of the time they are not nice to anyone & are quite ignorant, I deal with the Police on scene of MVA's on a regular basis & if I don't have to talk to them, I don't, unless it's about the vehicle I'm about to drag out of a tree or ditch, however, they cut us tow truck operators a lot of slack when they let us through DUI checkpoints, other then that, I don't deal with them.

I totally Agree with you. Very rarely do you find a police officer who has courtesy for civilians. I remember when I was about 15 years old And  at a boxing school there were two police officer who had memberships for boxing. While they were there with all the trainers and members they were very awesome to be around, but when you would see them in uniform you hardly knew who they were they were like demons had posses them. It was weird.

Wait so based on your interaction with how many police officers? Like 10? You can now judge the nearly 800,000 law enforcement officers employed in the U.S. alone (don't have stats on Canada). If you guys just stopped and thought about what you were saying you would understand how ignorant of a statement that is. I find that first off, most people think cops are dicks because the interactions they have with them are usually bad (getting a ticket or getting arrested), basically nobody likes being told they are wrong. Secondly, I don't think people really understand why cops do what they do or they have bad information on the job. Before I was a sheriff's explorer and eventually a police academy graduate I had no idea why cops did certain things or I thought they sounded like assholes for saying certain things, but now that I have some experience in that field I have a much better understanding on their point of view and a lot of it makes much more sense. I'm not saying that every cop is a great cop but in my experience (not to sound cocky but I can almost guarantee I have a lot more experience than you have with law enforcement) that the majority of officers are good people just trying to do the job the best they can.

People always complain about cops and say how 99% of them are bad and I feel that contributes to the "us vs them" mentality that people criticize police for having, because if all I hear from people is how much they hate the police and how all cops are bad cops then it does feel like everyone is against you. However, for me I just remind myself that just like it isn't fair for people to think that most cops are bad it isn't fair for me to assume that everyone hates cops because I have met many people who are very supportive.

So because my opinion is different from yours, it's ignorant? go hug a tree.. all cops are trained the exact same & to be honest they are there to serve the public, if they can't handle their job by not being personable & ignorant all the time they shouldn't be cops, period, if I had the attitude the vast majority of them had, I'd get fired.. & FYI I've never had a bad interaction with a cop..

Where in what I said did I say anything about 99% of them being bad?

Feel free to ask how much I care about your "experience" in the ACADEMY, if your not a cop, then by all means, please, sit down.

The bad ones make headlines everywhere before the good ones do, is that so shocking?

I didn't say it was ignorant because it was different. Re-read my post, I said your post was ignorant because you are making an assumption about 800,000 people based on your interaction with a handful of people. You could not be more wrong about all cops being trained the exact same, that is not true (at least not in the U.S.). There are things that will be the same but that does not mean that they are all trained the same way. Sorry, when you have to deal with the things they see then you wouldn't exactly be walking around with a smile on your face all the time. No where in the job requirements does it say you have to be personable with everyone, sometimes you just want to get the call done and move on. FYI I have more experience than just the academy and I'm not a cop at the moment (I'm serving in the military at the moment) but since you don't know me or anything about me you are in no place to judge how much experience I have because I can guarantee I have way more than you think. And you know why bad cops make headlines, because those headlines get more viewers and get better ratings. Nobody wants to hear about cops who are volunteering in the community in their free time, a headline about a dirty cop selling drugs is much more interesting to most people.

Who said I was judging you? if your thinking I meant all trained the same way that's not what I meant..

You make it sound like being a cop is the most stressful job out there,

You deal with the general public on a daily basis, how isn't it common sense to be personable?

I don't know, maybe based on your attitude during this entire conversation. Please explain to me what "all cops are trained the exact same" means. Lol, I make it sound like that because it is a VERY stressful job. I know there are other very stressful jobs as well and I don't know of any study that ranks jobs based on stress level but I'm sure law enforcement officer is somewhere near the top. What isn't stressful about not knowing if you are coming home again? What is not stressful about worrying if the person you are about to contact with wants to kill you? These are things that you deal with on a regular basis on the street and it is very stressful. Being personable is appropriate at times but that does not mean you have to be personable all the time. If someone is getting in my face about something then I've kinda lost the desire to be personable with that person. Besides, are you out at an MVA looking to make friends with a police officer? I don't know what kind of conversations you've had with them but when I'm getting swamped with calls and just trying to move onto the next call I'm not really interested in striking up a friendly conversation with someone and it might seem like I'm being a dick and ignoring you but I'm just trying to get my job done as quick as possible so I can clear.

So your answer would be no, I am not a police officer right now. Once I am done serving my tour I plan on going back and getting hired with an agency.

Im curious where in that question did I judge you or your said experience? My question to you was were you a cop. Which mean I asked because I didn't know. And If I didn't know if you were a cop, how could I place such a judgement on you? Listen with that so quick to get offended attitude, you won't make it past the psychological exam.  Sir No I am in no moral position to judge,(even though I didn't to start) But as a police officer you are in a position to think critically and use fair minded judgement. You seen to lack that. No offense :)

Where did I say that you judged me? What I said in that quote was not directed towards you. You asked me a question and I answered it by quoting something I had just said like one or two posts before. I never accused you of passing judgement on me and I was not offended by your question. BTW when you say something like "no offense" that usually means you are about to say something offensive, so if you want to insult me or offend me in the future don't bother putting "no offense" in there. I am not offended though because I can see that you misinterpreted what I posted.

Smart man I have said the same think. I used this toward white people who say's "No offense" when they are about to insult black people.

Did you know that more tow truck drivers are killed then Police, Fire & EMS combined every year on roadsides? Do you know how many tow truck drivers died last week? but you never hear anything about them, why? because it isn't news worthy.. so I am well aware of the stress of knowing I may not come home.. this is not something new, clearly you didn't get the part where I said, I DON'T talk to cops unless I have I have too, whether it be at an MVA or otherwise.

Sorry, but there is no reason for a person to feel a cop is not approachable.

Like I said, there are other jobs that are high stress too. I am aware that some years more tow truck drivers are killed than police. Although those stats are only for roadside deaths, there are still more police killed in the line of duty each year total and while the past few years law enforcement has seen a significant decrease in auto related deaths, gunfire deaths have seen a very drastic increase from previous years.

Ok, if you don't talk to cops anyway then why are you complaining about them not being personable with you? I find it hard to believe that out of all the police officers you claim to deal with that "99.99%" are not personable or approachable, but if that is the case then I am sorry that you have such bad luck with police officers.

I already said once that the discussions should return to the topic at hand. One time should be enough.
