Any good tutorials for converting cars?

Featured Replies

I've decided I want to try and convert a car,so I downloaded a couple of models I like. The first one I'm trying comes with .jpg textures and the actual model comes in . max scene file. I don't know to do from there and I can't seem to find a good tutorial for cars, just peds.

I usually import the .max files into 3DS Max, then export to Zmodeler. Converting is basically re-assigning textures to the model, you just need to follow the proper "codes" for the texture.

What do you mean by proper codes? Like make sure the materials are set up right?

Yeah, you need to make sure that the game sees it, and it has all the proper maps for it.

Ok, two more things. What do I do about dummies? Let's say the car is a silverado, should I import polpatriot and use its dummies, or does it not matter where the dummies are? Also would it be easier to use materials from bxbugs tahoe and apply them or should I make my own materials?

That's a lot easier. I usually import a stock GTA IV vehicle that is similar to the vehicle that I am converting. I'd usually use the materials that come with the vehicle, if you can you should make your own.
