RCMP Officer Forgets Loaded Shotgun

Recommended Posts

Police station closed? I thought they would always be open 24/7?

IMO, I would have not walked to the police station, but have phoned 911 right where it happened.

University detachments are more like kiosks where officers sit during daytime hours to be able to respond faster to any calls on campus- they're not stations, more just a room with a few seats in.

I quite agree. I wouldn't touch it but call 911 immediately. There's no way of knowing it's police issue of course.

A lot of the detatchments specifically RCMP detatchments do close, there really aren't many RCMP officers in one area & there are MAYBE 3-5 cops on in my area alone that cover quite the amount of area, 1 main detachment in Halifax that house the RCMP & HRP, so it's not really unusual.

Even at large departments here in the US, most police buildings are only open to the public during normal business hours. Mon-Fri 8am-5pm.

There is no need for civilians to be in a PD office in person most of the time, and staffing it 24/7 would just be unnecessary expense. The only reason people go there in person is usually to handle paperwork or administrative stuff. In an emergency, people call 911. And in a non emergency, people still call 911 unfortunately...
