Help spotting a line for a texture

Recommended Posts

So I am currently trying to make a Pennsylvania State Police skin for an Expedition, but I am having a few issues that I would like some tips on.

1. There are 2 versions of the Expedition I can do -

This one:

Or this one:

The main difference is the placement of the dark line. On the first one, it is lower on the body, whereas the second one, it is higher up; it goes through the door handles. My issue is, the template that I am using, has the body of the Expedition sort of canted at an angle, not level and flat like the pictures.

Here is a pic of the work so far + my issue:

I want to be able to make the dark line go flush with the door handles, like the second picture, but I'm not sure how to since the template is at an angle. Any texture people able to give me some tips on this?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure I understand your issue. Are you having trouble placing the black line inside the gold line? Could you try to better explain your problem? I may be able to help.

My issue is since the body of the truck is slanted slightly, I'm having trouble lining up the thick dark line properly. It should be situated level with the door handles, and be straight across. but in order for it to be level with the door handles on the template, the line has to be sloped slightly. And when I put the skin on the truck itself to test it, its sloped, not level and straight. This throws off the entire rest of the skin.

I see. I can't really think of a fix for this, with it being more to do with how the model is and the allignment of the door handles ect. I would say just do the first skin if you can't align the lines properly.

I tried the first one as well, same problem. The first one is lower down and completely straight. This is irritating. haha. I think what I'm going to do is, I'm going to make both, and then put pics of them here to see which is better liked, then release that one. lol

Sounds good to me. That model isn't really the greatest, being converted from Google sketchup and all... *shudders*

There is a better one out there. If I am able to get my hands on it i'll whip you something up with it.

Yeah, that's what I was kind of disappointed with. But I really wanted to do one since there aren't really any Ford Expeditions in GTA IV. lol. I did find another Expedition on GTA4-Mods made by Dhruv/Fulcrum, but it isn't that high of quality, nor is the template, but with the template, it is more level and has the door handles I can line up with. I'm going to give it a h'whack on that one.

Ok, so I think I figured out the issue, even if the template is sloped slightly, the livery sill comes out straight, as it should, in-game. Here is a picture of what I have so far. I had to start over from last night my power went out in the middle of working. The last thing(s) I have to do are the car numbers, the American flags that go on the rear window pillars, and the hardest part, the "State Trooper" and "State Police" text on the sides and rear of the car. I can't find any close fonts to the real thing. Does anyone have any suggestions?
