Game data reset itself after clean install.

Featured Replies

I used a clean install to replace my LCPDFR GTA IV folder. It had no mods or anything after i replaced it with the one from steam, then i added LCPDFR and SNT and played for a while. After not crashing for a while, i decided to add a callout mod and All of a sudden my old GTA IV game data with all the old ELS and car mods were back in the same folder! What the hell?

Has this happened to any of you or am i just hallucinating?

ummm.... ghost?

It's ironic that I just saw the "I, Robot" movie again (for the 5th time) & now I'm reading this, lel.

That is weird.

After replacing, did you verify that all the mod files had been removed from the GTA:IV folder?

Not all mods replace files, & if you don't delete the added files, then they might still work after you reinstall dsound.dll (or xliveless) & other dependencies (ScriptHook / AdvancedHook, etc.)

And regarding the car mods, did you replace the default IV police cars/vehicles, or did you add them as new vehicles?

If you added them as new vehicles (with new files [newhandling.dat, newvehicles.ide, newvehicles.img {file names may be different if you changed them} ] ) then they will still be there, but the game won't recognize them until you edit the IV files again (gta.dat, & images.txt [i think there was one more, but can't remember it currently] ).

A side note: You probably should've named the topic to "Game data 'reinstalled' itself after clean install". Putting "reset" made me think that you meant your game files got reset to original

Yeah, when I reinstalled I usually loose all my stuff. It's good to do a fresh install once in a while though.
