New Guy Modding Police Cars Questions

Okay I have watched the videos an I understand that I use Spark4 to import the .WFT and .WTD files no problem. My question is somethings that I have looked for but I have found no info on so I will try you nice people.

1. Lets say I want to use BXBUGS CVPI mod and I look at the "slots" that it can fill. "Police1" and "Police2" obviously. So the CVPI would show up in the game instead of the replaced car "texture" and it would handle just like the car it replaced? What would happen if I put it in, say, a NOOSE slot? Would it look normal but have the driving qualities of a large NOOSE vehicle (Hummer)? <------ Do I have this all correct?

2. So if I want to be pretty much the ONLY guy driving around my CVPI I should put it in the FBI slot because those black FBI chargers only show up when you call them correct? Also....it would handle like the FBI charger in the game?

3. What does it mean when a mod says "optimised for police1" or "police2... ect.." How can it optimised for one or the other? I see CVPI that say optimised for NOOSE so wont they handle like crap?

4. After you add the "+Livery" line to the .IDE file do I understand it correctly that for one "slot" (Police2 for example) you can have, say, 4 different cars show up at random for that one "slot" if you have 4 different liveries?

I am sure there are videos out there that talk about changing the handling qualities of the vehicle "slots" themselves but I have not come across them yet. Any links?

As you can see I am new at this. Any info you may want to pass about this "lesser known" part of vehicle modding I would love to hear. Modding the cars was easy to find but the reasons behind using the "slots" I just dont grasp.

Many many thanks!

New Question! What is the "FCV_Template.png" file included is some downloads? Do I need it?

1. You can use the cvpi to replace police, police2 and noose bro, because most of the bxbugs models are optimised for these three slots and it will handle fine. But to replace a hummer(by this Noose Patriot), you will have to search for a similar vehicle like the Chevrolet Suburban/Tahoe etc.

2. Yes FBI chargers dont normally spawn like the police cruisers unless wanted level increases(Atleast I think so) and you can replace the fbi with any CVPI of your choice and it will optimised to perform as the charger itself.

3. Optimised means it is best recommended by the mod creator to replace that particular model(s) which will most correctly suit the car model..!!! And as i said earlier most the GPM mods are optimised for the Police cruiser, police patrol, FBI charger, Noose cruiser and noose patriot ..!!!

In that only the noose patriot cannot be replaced with CVPI due to difference in handling and for that GPM provides a big section for Tahoes and Suburbans

4. Most of the CVPI's contain multiple skins, that is different (Upto 4) paint jobs which spawn at random and the +Livery just tells the game that the particular model has more than one skin to load, hence you see upto four different paintjobs ingame...!!!

Hope i have answered your questions...!!!

Cheers..!!!

To answer your questions:

1. You could replace the polpatriot with a CVPI mod. However, the handling would be screwed, the engine sound would be that of the default patriot instead of the default crown vic and the textures wouldn't fit as well.

2. If you want to be the only one driving around in your modded car, you could indeed use the fbi slot or the noose slot. Those cars rarely show up. Depends on what engine sound you prefer.

3. A mod is always optimized for a certain type of default car. You have to take the handling and the model itself into account. Also, the textures wouldn't fit if you used them on another model. A lot of CVPI mods are indeed optimized for NOOSE but I think what you mean is a NOOSE patriot(polpatriot). If the mod says "Noose.wtd", it means the default slicktop noose cruiser. If it says "polpatriot", it means the hummer like you said.

4. "+livery" does indeed mean 4 different textures. So if a car mod says "multiple liveries", it means that you can have 4 textures for the same model. These textures will appear randomly in the game.

If you want to change handling lines, go to common/data/handling.dat and adjust the line you want to change.

I hope this all sounded understandable. There are plety of other people on this forum who know more about modding than me so if you still don't understand, I'm sure other people will help you out as well.

Regards

Great info guys!!! Outstanding! Many thanks.

I am starting to "get it".

I installed ELS6 and a CVIP car (7.2J I think). I put in the modded .IDE file with +livery change. The two car files (.WFT & .WTD) went into Police2. I started LCPDFR and went on duty. I made it to the select car part of going on duty and scrolled until I came to this beautiful grey CVPI car. GREAT SO FAR. But I assumed I could keep scrolling to see all 4 different models but I couldn't. It only showed the one grey model. Also....on patrol I never saw any variations of the grey car I was driving. How do I see the random variations? There was only one .WFT and one .WTD file to install. Should there have been 4 of each?

Thanks again.

Also.....yes I am messing up what the cars are called. Just to get it straight:

Police = Police Cruiser (Stock Ford looking car)

Police2 = Police Patrol (Stock Impalla looking car)

FBI = Black Charger

Noose = Alteration of Police Cruiser

Noose Patriot = Patriot (Hummer)

1.The game uses handling.ide for the vehicle handling and vehicles.ide for other important stuff like ride height, livery control, etc. so basically the wtd and wft files provided in your download has nothing to do with it.You'll have to change it manually,by opening them or else they'll remain stock. For instance: If you want a cvpi in noose slot, get wtd and wft files for cvpi, handling and vehicles line and replace them all.You now have a cvpi (performing like a cvpi) in noose slot, now.

2.Yes,you can do that, too. One crazy idea will be to replace it with Turismo (as its a rare car) and enable els on it.But take my advice and never try such kind of things. So your idea is better.

Yes they will perform like a charger, but if a handling and/or vehicles line is provided,DO NOT forget to replace those.

3.I agree with Aparna on this. Its the best recommended slot for a specific vehicle by its creator. But,again if you have the handling and vehicles line, you're free to do anything.

4.Yes,you're right.GTA:IV supports at max 4 liveries for any vehicle.(Exceeds the excitement to a whole new level,no?)

5.That FCV_Template you're talking about is not much of your use, atm. Its for the texture modders, who create custom liveries.Leave it alone.

The cars you named are right, though.

Wow......I am loving this. What I am really pumped about is this...if I am correct...

I can have 4 liverys in Police

I can have 4 liverys in Police2

I can have 4 liverys in NOOSE

That is 12 different cops cars in the game! Yes NOOSE would be rare but still that is 8 different cop cars under normal patrol!

Question: Can one slot (Police) hold BOTH marked and slicktop liverys?

Also.....all the CVPI I downloaded (ALOT) none of them come with handling files so I guess stock is fine.

Strange strange strange.

The readme says it has 4 skins and licences plates that show up random but I spawned 6 cars and they are all the same. Actually one didnt have the word "traffic" on the side. Still I should have gotton different cop cars?

Well after messing with this for awile I think I will pass on ELS. The effect is super cool but even on my monster system (i5-2500k with GTX580 and 8MB Ram) I am seeing the taxi bug. I know there are programs out there that "fix" the taxi thing but I don't want to go down that road yet.

What I DO want to do is find some low polygon/non-ELS cop cars with 4 very different liverys for each slot for Police and Police2 so I can have 8 different looking cop cars show up. I guess I will post over at GPM for that unless anyone has some that they know about? Thank you all for your knowledge and post any more tips you have here.

Before I go any further I better get something straight....

The 4 different liverys means....

1. Only 2 files (.WFT & .WTD)?

2. 4 different paint jobs/colors. Like I could have a black&white cop car, a green cop car, a red one and a pure white one with just the two files above?

Aparna these look great!

I am going to dive in and I will report back. I think I want 4 different liverys for the cruiser and I want 4 different slicktop liverys for the patrol.

Solid copy on the double post. Thanks for these! I cant wait to see all the different cop cars. I think that is why I love the game so much. I am a cop-car-file!

Hmmmmm....is it ELS or the hi-poly CVPI that causes the "taxi bug"?
