The game port is absolutely horrible.

The performance is shit and so is modding, heck, we should be happy we have the option to mod it. Even on powerful setups, the game runs absolutely horrible, modded or not.

I would't exactly call the game badly scripted, only the port being bad.

  • GTA IV is a fantastic game and rarely crashes for me. As Mustu said, mods will make it worse. Like a lot worse.    And I do not mindlessly kill civilians, I police.

  • I seem to be the same way. Although I don't crash often, it's expected for one to crash after omitting the female breasts from one's game after heavily modifying it.

There needs to be a Yes/No option cause IMO GTA IV is a poorly ported game when it come to playing the base game with no mods. Also with no mods i never crash. However it still maybe poorly ported whe

The performance isn't shit, it's great. I rarely (if ever) crash.

When saying 'performance' I am referring to general sleekness of the game. Getting under 60 FPS in a title such as GTA IV is not acceptable with my specs, therefore I say that it performs horribly.

You got to take into account it was not only Rockstar's first multiplayer PC game on the Rage engine, but it was their first larger scale Rage engine game being ported for PC. With that in mind, I got to hand it to them. It's really crash-less (unless you stack it full of stupid mods) and performs great (on the latest patch, at least for me). Certainly it was optimization issues but not only did they fix majority of them, they've certainly stepped up for the PC version of L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3 after they got experience with IV.

Modding GTA IV is a balancing act between your scripts, mods, Extra crap, and your computers limitations. My game is crammed full of scripts,Models, altered data files and still does not crash. And if you can stand to play it Vanilla then it will never crash. The game is very nicely packaged, the way its put together on the RAGE engine. But you can tell Rockstar never really though to embrace the modding community with it.
