Adding new cars?

Featured Replies

Sorry if this is a stupid question; this is the gamer's dad here, trying to help him install a mod.  Specifically the "GTAIV_BEFORE_1983_CARS_PACK".  I've tried using Spark IV, but it just gives me errors about the cars not already being in the database.  Well yes, we're trying to add new cars here.

Can I just copy the new carcols.dat, handling.dat, vehicles.ide and vehicles.img files over their current versions in the EFLC/TBoGT tree?  Or do I also have to fiddle with other files and settings?  The GTAIV_BEFORE_1983_CARS_PACK.rar doesn't contain a readme file, which would be helpful, but only the four files I mentioned.

I don't mind moving files around, but I don't want to stuff up what's already working.

Thanks very much!

I think i know what happing here

I think your installing it the wrong location, the TBoGT vehicles.img is for the TBoGT exclusive cars 'Like the police bike"

You should be installing them under EFLC/PC/Models/CDimages/

I made the same mistake when I first got EFLC

You cannot use SparkIV to add new cars.

You have to use OpenIV for that.

I came into the same problem when I wanted add new police cars to one of my GTA:IV versions.

I then realized that there was no "Add" button in SparkIV, upon searching the net, I understood that SparkIV only replaces vehicles, it cannot add new vehicles,  but OpenIV can do that.

SparkIV gives the error about the car not being in the database is because it cannot find that car file to replace.

EDIT: Added link to OpenIV site.

EDIT2: To clarify, you said "we're trying to add new cars here", by which I assume you mean adding new .wtd & new .wft  files (eg: 70scvpistate.wtd & 70scvpistate.wft) in the vehicles.img file, not replacing present .wtd & .wft files (eg: police.wtd & police.wft)

Heres what to do if you are trying to put in new police cars using spark IV

1) open up spark iv

2) click BROWSE

3) click cdimages (on the left at the very bottom)

4) Click vehicle.img (should add a "new page" with a list of all the different cars)

5)Click IMPORT

6) Put in the cars you want (police, police2, noose, fbi, etc......You can also change the car files name by only changing the first word, DONT CHANGE the wtd. of wft

example police.wtd and police.wtf......fbi.wtd and fbi.wtf)

7) Click REBUILD and SAVE

8)DONE!!!!! (for now)
