News Helicopter Crash Killing 2

Recommended Posts

Would it be wrong of me to say this is, literally breaking news?

I'm sorry.

It is interesting though (and tragic I know) that helicopters seem to be having a few issues lately. I know of 2 news articles from the UK within the past few months of helicopters spontaneously falling out of the sky. One in Ireland and another in Norfolk. I also recall one last year which struck a crane in London.

It's almost like the old LCPDFR 0.95 helicopter AI has infected real world helicopters.

My thoughts go to the friends and families of these crash victims, but I still find it peculiar, maybe I'm just paranoid about helicopters...

I am saddened by todays events. Our community has lost 2 great people in this tragic accident. Most don't know this about news choppers but they are more than pests in the sky chasing lights and sirens, they actually help first responders all the time with locating incidents, being first on scene to remote plane crashes, assist police with tracking dangerous fugitives, etc. Let it also be know that the pilot, Gary Pfitzner, saved a lot of people today by attempting to "ditch" his chopper in an area that was least populated in a very busy part of the Seattle Center. My thoughts are with the families and friends of the pilot and camera man, the news crews who knew these men personally, the man in the intensive care burn unit in critical condition that survived the chopper smashing into it and catching the car on fire, his family and friends, the first responders (including the citizens who stepped up to help) and the communities that have been impacted by this tragic accident.

I believe it had something to do with the fuel that was put into the helicopter, just before it attempted to take off, only to crash.

The fuel may not have been successfully loaded, as it was said that it leaked out. Since it leaked out, it may not have been able to gain altitude, thus falling straight back down, although I don't think it would just dive like said, and the blades would at least auto-rotate.

As for this comment, I am not sure what your news outlet has been saying but I have been following this story since it happened and being apart of an agency that may become involved in this accident, I have yet to hear of any fuel leaking. They do not fuel these choppers from these heli-pads on top of the buildings, they do that at the airport. I think what may have happened was misinformation about the fuel that was a RIVER of jet fuel on fire streaming down the street after the chopper crashed. They have been no reports locally that any fuel was leaking prior to the crash. What has been said was the chopper had landed, was starting to take off again and was in his pre-flight hover, then witnesses outside and inside the news building reported hearing a strange sound, watched the chopper spin around once, and then nose down into the ground. As for the "auto-rotate" they weren't more than a 5 stories up so there wasn't enough room or altitude for the pilot to do anything to save the chopper other than aim for an empty spot and crash.
