Game crashes when I crash (wreck)

Featured Replies

First off let me take the time to thank the mod creators! I love this Mod!

I'm not sure if this has been answered, I have tried my hardest to find a topic, but as you can see from the title, my question confuses search engines lol.

Anyway when I'm playing LCPDFR and wreck into something or someone extremely hard or just wreck sometimes, the game will tell me GTA 4 quit working, and it really only happens when using the FIB Buffalo, and only when LCPDFR is active.

(I can't recall if the regular cruisers ever caused a crash as I barely use them)

As stated above it only happens when I wreck, and only when the LCPDFR script is active.

I'm basically chalking it up to having modded vehicles previously, and when I restored using GTA4 Vehicle Mod Manager, it corrupted something, as I only ever used the FIB Buffalo slot for car mods, and that's the car that seems to be causing the crash.

Has anyone else had this issue, know the cause, and have a fix besides doing a clean install?

Also, I cannot locate a log file to check the error, that is if it's even LCPDFR related, so I apologize in advance for not providing that.

Windows 8

LCPDFR 1.0

EFLC Updated to latest patch

Legal copy of game

GFX Drivers updated to the latest

No other mods

Default Vehicles and Peds

EditToAdd: I've uninstalled/reinstalled LCPDFR several times (auto and manual) and the problem persists. I'm also going to hop in-game right now and play with the other cruisers to see if I can get it to crash. I'll report back.

Thank you so very much for your time.

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Ok so I've spotted the likely cause of your issue, you used the vehicle mod manager. Don't use this, it's pretty unstable and doesn't allow you control of the files at all.

Your best option is to delete GTA IV and all it's files in the root directory and reinstall the game clean, then make a backup of the clean install to save you time in the future.

Once you have done that, reinstall LCPDFR and test to make sure it's working fine, and if it does you can reinstall your car mods one by one and see if it works again.

Also the log file for lcpdfr is titled "LCPDFR.log" and is located in the root of the GTA IV directory, if it's there. Your AdvancedHook.log might also provide us with some extra information.

Hope this helps :)

Hi! First off, I love your topic title. Gave me a good laugh. Thanks for the provided information as well, makes it a lot easier! Let's start this off:

Are you running the game as administrator? Running the game as administrator: Go to the GTA IV folder, right click on GTAIV.exe, Properties, Compatibility and select 'Run this program as administrator', do the same exact thing to the LaunchGTAIV.exe.

I'd also recommend you to use another software than Vehicle installer. I recommend you to use OpenIV.

EDIT: Hi Luke.

Thanks for your reply! Okay, I was worried about the Mod Manager, and am starting to lean towards that. I'll go ahead and do a clean install and see if it continues. I'll post up the files if the issue continues. However I did find the log file and here was the last entry from when my game crashed lastnight. "[WARNING - 10:09:20 PM] [ContentManager] AddPed: Ped already has a non-default content manager. It's recommended to properly reset the content manager, before changing" As for backing up, yeah that was my bad, I usually do it, but I skipped it in haste. Doh.

Thanks for your reply as well! Haha yeah it's a doozy. I've already had to go this route concerning running as admin, as GTA 4 wasn't saving my settings until I did this, that was at first install. I have also made sure my GTA 4 directory isn't read me only. Guess it's time for a clean install.

That is just a warning it's not causing any crash, I get that warning pop up many times so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Definitely run a clean install and never ever ever skip a backup stage :P It makes life so much easier :)

Hi Ineseri

Yeah I wont be doing that anymore lol Would of been a breeze if I did, I agree. One last question if you don't mind. As I currently have saves, and don't want to lose them, do I just have to pull my "saves" folder to protect my saves during all this malarkey?

Again thank you for your time.

If you saved while using mods, it's not really recommended to keep them. But anyway: The save files are located in 2 different places.

X:Users%username%AppDataLocalRockstar GamesGTA IVsavegames
X:Users%username%DocumentsRockstar GamesGTA IVsavegames
Note: The AppData-folder is usually hidden, make sure that you can see hidden files.

Note 2: “X” is the drive where you have installed GTA IV, and %username% is replaced by your username

Okie dokie, and yeah I never save during LCPDFR game play. Only during base GTA 4. I write tickets left and right and dont want the added income you tend to rack up playing LCPDFR in my base game. Cheers! Running uninstall now, once I go through all the motions I'll spend some time in game with the mod to see if I can get it to crash again. Lessons learned here: Always back your stuff up lol and stay away from the mod manager.

Again thank you very much for your help.

Yep, go into your documents and find the save files, just pull them out of that directory and store them elsewhere they should be kept safe then.

Let us know how that works out :)

Got everything set back up, and its amazing, the base game runs a lot smoother now lol surely something was wacked due to me playing with the mod manager. LCPDFR is running better as well, and the AI has seemed to improve. I am no longer getting the CTD after I wreck, but Im getting a CTD during pursuits now (GTA is no longer working), so I'll be searching the forums now to try and solve that. It crashed when I went to pull a drunk driver out of their car mid pursuit, and a few other times while engaged in a pursuit, so no clue what that's about. However I got to play for about an hour or so without problems. It used to crash every 15 mins. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Also there is nothing in the log file pertaining to the crashes as it on the GTA side of it.

Indeed! Exactly what I did and all my saves came back. Thanks bunches!

Def having some major fun now! And I feel like a schmuck haha. I had gtalauncher set to admin, but not the exe in the root folder. I could have bet (and lost) every cent I have because I could have sworn I did that. I haven't crashed on pursuit since I changed that about 2 hours ago. Doh! Troubleshooting at it's finest (sarcasm). It's always the little things, isn't it. Especially regarding GTA 4.

Also. Thank you so much to the both of you for your speedy suggestions and showing me how awesome this community can be!

Cheers!
