What will happen when GFWL goes out

Featured Replies

I was (still waiting) trying to get my redeem product key from Rockstar games when I was looking up some info on Games For Windows Live. I found a article that pretty much said GFLW would be ending in July. IS THIS TRUE? I have been waiting for 3 weeks to get a product key from rockstar and now they are going to get rid of it. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE PLAN IS!!!! And also will I need a product key in the "future" if there is another way to play multiplayer?

Also I don't rember the website i saw it at but I know it was on Yahoo (sorry)

Thanks in advance and I would like to hear what y'all think and know about this.

GFWL is getting phased out in the near future, that is true. The Big issue with GFWL going out will largely be that cannot play Multiplayer anymore if I'm not mistaken.

I'm sure if R* doesn't find a workaround for that, the community likely will. I mean, it did after all make a whole new awesome game from a good game.

okay thanks. but would I need a product key in the future to play multiplayer. R* still has not given me one. They say "first come fist served"and i'v been waiting 3 weeks. All because the GFLW says my product key is invalid. How can this happen? I bought the game from Walmart shouldn't it be "okay" to play multiplayer?

Thanks

We will be playing GTA V on pc by then i hope!

Yeah i hear you my only hope is that they make it able to mod and that LCPDFR makes a mod for it!!!

Thanks

If this is true and we cannot play multiplayer anymore, and if R* does not make a new patch to play mutiplayer without GFWL. That would suck cause i'm going to be getting a gaming desktop in a month or so.

Edit: If GFWL were to go down wouldn't Xbox services go down? Cause correct me if i'm wrong but GFWL and Xbox are together right?

As I said, knowing the community, we'll likely get a way to play MP one way or another if GTAIV MP indeed does go down as it is (since you need GFWL to actually play MP on the PC.)

No, finally a crappy service gets taken down.

I hope they move GTA IV to Steamworks instead.

What's Steamworks? Sorry but I just don't know what it is.

I'd hope they allow redeeming of the codes via Steam. That's a good point though. Still, I stand by my word: I am not sad to see GFWL to go.

Dude I really hope so. Thanks man

Hopefully if this happens they update the redeeming process on Steam, right now it allows you to redeem keys in the format 12345-12345-12345 and my CD code is in this format 12345-12345-12345-12345-12345

Did you buy your game through steam or from another store like Walmart, gamestop, etc.? And are you not able to play MP like me because you Key does not work? I'm trying to get my redeem product key from R* games.

I'd suspect Steamworks has a way to support copies bought not through Steam; Valve wants to make it as easy as possible for publishers to use Steam, because they get more money that way.

@XP...: Xbox Live and GFWL are related, but that doesn't mean they're inseparable. Microsoft's shutting down the GFWL service, but thad doesn't mean they can't still run the Xbox Live service.

I bought my copy from walmart.com and had it shipped to my house. But for the key i was saying they need to update the redeem thing to allow any code for gta iv to be redeemed.

Did it work to play multiplayer afterwords? And how did you do that update?
