I think windows vista home premium

Latest service pack for vista is 2 I believe. 

2 should work right I know you say your not good at hardware and stuff like that but shouldn't it

Service pack has nothing to do with hardware, that is about software, something that I do know about. I do know that Vista isn't really stable at all. 

How do I upgrade without paying anything

What is it that you intend to upgrade? Hardware costs money. Software updates and service packs from Microsoft are free. 

I just really wanna play this game I've been trying to get it to work forever I got it about 1 in a half years ago for my b day and been trying to get it to work off and on forever

Are you running the game as administrator? Do you have the latest patch? Is it a legal copy of the game? 

got it from best buy i hit run as administrator and i installed the patch

 

I'd say reinstall the game and try again.
